choke tube choice

Im trying to decide between a comp-n-choke or kicks brand choke tube. Should I go with full or extra full? Any suggestions on which would pattern best with a rem 870 3 1/2?

KICKS!!!!! Tim Herald turned me on to them a few years ago. I have tried several different tubs and the kicks holds a tighter pattern in all 3 of my shotguns. (Mossberg 835, Benelli Nova, Winchester Super X2)

I shoot a 870 3 1/2" super mag with a Kicks 655 choke. Matched with Win 3 " HV Supremes 6 shot. You can cut one in half with this set-up.

I use a comp-n-choke .655, but in fairness that was the only extended custom tube out at the time. I have great results with it. I hear raves about Kicks, MADs, Rhinos and Brileys. I use Rhinos and Brileys on my Citoris for sporting clays, and they are really, really consistent tube to tube when you mic them. I also personally believe that way too much emhasis is placed on chokes, and many misses are caused by having the choke too tight, which doesn't give you much margin for error within 20 yds. Many wounded birds are also caused by guys thinking they're good out to sixty yards. But that's just my opinion.

Another tid bit of information is that guys will get on here and tell you the number of pellets they get in the head and neck area with a certain type of choke tube. That is just not a good measure of how your setup is shooting. The reason is this..the manufacturers of the turkey targets almost always have different sized turkeys on them. One target may have a 1 inch neck, while the other had a two inch neck. So the guy shooting at a turkey with a two inch neck will likely have a higher pellet count in the head and neck areas.

If you really want to see how your gun patterns, count the pellets you get in a 10 inch cirlce. A turkeys head constantly moves around in a 10 inch circle, another reason why head and neck pellet counts on a still target aren't a good representation.

I shot two different makers of tubes and have clear results. IN both a Benelli Nova and Benelli Super 90 Field Grade, the 20$ H.S. Strut Undertaker beat the 60$ MAD choke by quite a few pellets at 30 yards (10 in.) circle. I used the shoot and see targets and it was all yellow in the circle with the Undertaker. I recoil has an effect on your comfort, the Undertaker is not ported and the MAD MAX is. I do not believe it is a 40$ difference in punch though.

i got a hastings 640 for my new franchi and it does a good job. at 30yds on a homemade turkey, it put 44 in the head and neck with 3in #6 federals.

I tried a Rhino and Hastings with only fair results, but last spring tried the Tru-Glo Srut Stopper and was totally impressed. Problem is, they don't all perform the same way gun to gun.

I agree with Sky and 14mercs.
A $60 choke that shoots 40 at 40 will not kill a turkey DEADER than an old regular full choke 12 ga.... if you pattern your gun and limit your shots.
