I don't know what it is about this movie but it's always been one of my favorites. I like movies with lots of scenes of nature so I guess that's part of the allure. Makes me feel like I'm out there with them. I hadn't seen it in years and just watched it again tonight on DVD. Anybody else like it or any old time movies similar?

Yep, that's a good one. Although not quite so outdoorsy, I also like "The Outlaw Josey Wales".

I also love J.J. Great flick. Some other good "outdoors" movies are Legends of the Fall, Red Dawn, Deliverance (minus "that scene"), and my pick for Clint Eastwood---Unforgiven, I love that scene after they kill the guy in the outhouse and Clint is talking to the kid about killing a man, right before he flys off the handle. That is one great outdoor scene.

Yeah, Deliverance would have been a great outdoor movie if not for "that" scene. They filmed that on a Georgia river that had been dammed and was filling up. People see me loading up for a canoe trip, and I get lots of banjo jokes. "You got a pretty mouth, boy." That kind of stuff. I tell them it's hard to rape a 45 loaded with hollowpoints.

Ned Beatty (a Kentucky boy) saw his career almost die because he was forever known as the poor guy on Deliverance. Took years for him to get work after that.

Yep, it's a shame they had to put that scene in there IMO, because for that time, that was an outstanding movie. It's still good today. I'm hard pressed to think of one scene in a movie that, like you said is still constantly refered to still. I wasn't alive in 72, but I can't imagine how people reacted back then.

Jeremiah Johnson is an outstanding movie. Not just the scenery, they paid attention to details such as background noises. Several elk bugle throughout the movie.

"Jeremiah Johnson" is great, one of my favorites, also "Mountain Men" is a great one, my favorite quote from it is Brian Keith talking about getting lost..."I ain't never been lost,....' been fearsome confused for a week or two.. but never lost". You should also check out "Last of The Dogmen" if you've never seen it, also lots of gtreat outdoor scenery. "Death Hunt" with Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin is another good one for outdoor scenery. I also Have to mention "A River Runs Through It" , "The Bear" and "How the West Was Won"

I have tried watching deadwood a couple of times but the language is too much for me. The cursing is awful but also the dialogue is not what I would expect from persons from that time and place. I just cant seem to get into it.
