As the hunting season winds down, now is a good time to check your gun(s). Make sure they are unloaded and give them a good cleaning. Then protect them with a good gun oil. Then about every month or so check them and give them another coat of oil. It is alot easier to get oil out of a barrel/fire channel than it is rust.
Now is also a good time to make a list of the things that you will need for the next hunting season. Maybe you broke a spring on that flintlock and used your only spare. Maybe you lost a patch puller or a jag. Are you running low on caps or powder, maybe cleaning supplies? Make a list and tape it to the door of your gun locker and you will know exactly what you will need to get up for the next season.
