Last night, i went to walmart with my friend (turkeyhunter5) and bought a flyrod with some flies and line. This morning, i practiced some before i took it out. It only took me a few seconds to learn how to cast right. Ive got to where i can hit the inside of a hoolahoop about everytime i cast. Anyone know any public creeks around here where i might be able to catch some trout??? I would like to catch something before i try trout, so i'll be fishing alot today and this coming week. Any tips will also be appreciated alot!

What about some of the strip pits in your area? The bank is not the best place to start, but you should get a lot of action

Not sure but do they still stock trout below the Rough river dam. I would say it might be a bit of a drive to reach any other trout waters from Harford. And make sure you have to proper licence just in case you catch a big rainbow and want to keep it.

jeff, get you some of those rubber legged spiders or some that look like ants and catch some bluegill on that flyrod. They will give you all the fight you want. If I remember right, Jay showed me some ponds over by his house on coal co ground that would be perfect for a fly rod.

Trout, I think the closest creek to you may be Sinking Creek......Go out to the department website, they may have the trout stocking on there.

BUT I'll tell you what IMHO opinion, you cant' beat catching those big bull bluegill on a fly rod.........and they taste better then trout anyday!!!!

Thanks a bunch for all the comments, keep 'um coming! I went back behind my house just to see if i could catch anything, i didnt have a single strike. After i go squirrel hunting tomorrow, i plan on going fishing with my grandpa at a nice sized pond. Im going to take my flyrod, but my regular pole also. This is because there is a HUGE carp in the lake, and i dont wanna hook onto him with my flyrod! Roger, i think i know a couple of the ponds youre talking about. I caught my biggest bass out of one of the ponds. And i saw some that had to be 8lbs. That was my favorite pond, but i lost t because it was sold and the guy wont let us fish it. And i have fished one of the other ponds a few years back, but i dont have permission to fish it now. There is also a pond next to my friends house that we are going to try to get permission to fish. He has fished there before, they say it isnt nothing to go back there and catch a 7 pounder every time you go (and that was a couple of years ago).

Well, today i caught my first fish with a flyrod. It was a small bluegill, but it put up a decent fight. I saw 2 6lb + bass. I casted out a few times, he went for it, but didnt take it. I bet that would be one heck of a fight. I'll be back there after him tomorrow after i go squirrel huntig (if i do). If not, ill be out there. I did loose 2 of my flies, so i no only have 3 flies. I also lost my one and only leader. Does it matter what kind (or pound) or line you use for a leader?? I also hope to get into tying my own flies some time. I want to get a fly tying bench and the rest of the stuff you need. Anyone know a site i could go to that would have all the info i need to learn how to tie flies and the works??? Thanks a bunch,

Jeff

Dang Jeff, you got me going on the flyrod. Went out to the garage, knocked the dust off it and the granddaughter and I went up to the sportsman lake. I caught a nice bluegill on the first cast and finished with about six. Had to leave, it was getting hot and I promised my girl I would get her an icecream cone.......so it was a short trip, but fun none the less.
