You found yourself a Eastern Box Turtle in full rut!

You found a male that is mating, the male's head on an Eastern will go to an orange/red color (similar to a turkey) when he's strutting his stuff.
If Big58 sees this he may fill in some more, he's up on his herpotology and I'm outdated about23 years.:(

Better know as "tarpins" in my neck of the woods. (That would be "terrapins" for the flatlanders.) Some people view them as speedbumps. That makes me mad.

Sure am glad my head don't glow like that when I get the feeling.:D

If you have any interest in the turtles or tarpins. You can tell the difference in the male/female by looking at the bottom part of their shell. The part behind the hing will be flat on females and it will have a depression on the males. This helps the the males to .....well you figure that part out.:D

You can also tell the General age within a few years by the rings/lines on one of the patterns on the side of the shells. If it has 4 rings, then it is around 4 years old, they grow a new ring every year. That is definatly an Eastern Box looking for a mate....
