40lb Grass carp

Went fishing yesterday with a buddy if mine in Independence, KY, I caught the biggest fish I have ever caught, a 40.6 lb 46" Grass carp on top water with bread on my 6lb Ultra light rod and reel. I took pics and I will post them here shortly. I know there is close to a state record in there. SR is 55lbs 8oz. I'm just 15 pounds off. The sad thing is they guy wants all these grass carp out of his lake except for a few, I was going to sneek him back in but he came down to see what I caught, so I had no choice and there are no lakes around to put him in either. He was to big a fish to be caring around anyways. But there are bigger ones in there, I've seen them. We're thinning them out so sooner oor later, one of us are going to gettem.

The main farm pond I fish the owner put two in a couple years back. From what we have seen it looks like one is left. Most afternoons you can see it cruiseing and feeding. Not sure of just how big it is but it's tail which is visable most times it is feeding is quite large. Thats a heck of a fish for a ultra lite outfit, bet you had a blast fighting that one you caught.

My daughter who tends to name any critter that don't have a name such as the deer , turkeys and one special bobtail squirrel that hang around the house named this grass carp Gary the Grass Carp...LOL.

I know of a farm pond in hebron where there are grass carp that are huge. There top torsal fin is so damn big, it flops over. And the one I caught didnt do that. So I know that fish is well over 50 lbs or so
