 I have worked for two (2) years getting my Clover just right on my 3 acre pipeline foodplot. Got a call last week that the gas company needs to come in during July and take out some buried pipe.

Have them replace it with some clover, They might be willing to help out on making sure it gets replaced properly just ask them about it.
You working on a Right-of-way or and easement situation?
If Right-of-way, you don't have any promise (and I'm sorry) but if an easement, they must restore to the original condition.
Most utility companies work well with the land owners and they may help you put it back better than before.
Talk to them up front and ask if they do wildlife habitat work, you make make out well. Try being there if you can while they are doing the work, talk with them. If the work happens in the next few weeks and only rips a strip though the middle, wait it out and do a sowing of wheat in late August with clover in the fall.
Good luck with it, hope it works out for the best.

They have said that they will replace it with clover. Its just that I've been working on it for two(2) years and it was just getting right. I'm sure they are'nt going to put it down as thick as I had it, but I knew this could happen when I started it.

On the upside, I'll get rid of all the weeds & that bank that was too steep to mow. They are also going to put me a gate in. After they leave, I will overseed it with Regal Ladino Clover about 3 times what it calls for. This will help because with less weeds I won't have to mow as often. So, everything happens for a reason. :D

I've lost mind to Johnson Grass. Darn stuff took over three of my plots I sowed in Chicory and another one acre field of LabLab. They do make herbicides to kill it but they are expensive. So yesterday I took a disk to it and will use the plots for winter peas this fall . There went about $100 bucks down the drain for Chicory and LabLab:mad:
