View Full Version : What's your favorite Diaphragm call?
Hey guys, I'm getting geared up for turkey season these days and just pulled my calls out. Lately I've been using either the Pittman "Magnum Diamond" or Quaker Boy "Cutter", but I'm always looking for advice on what other's have had luck with. Post up and tell us what your favorite diaphragm call is. Be specific with maker and model name if possible.

Primos True Double II and any of the Knight &Hale multi-reeds. I forget the name of them--I bought about ten at one time and I just grab a new one every now and then.

Mine would have to be the Knight and Hale Triple Inverted V and a close second would have been the Magnum Hen for a bit higher pitch sound.

Preston Pittman "lil killer" and "lil exciter". Had good luck with them in late season when turkeys are a little call shy. They are smaller than most calls and fit in your mouth easier. They also make other calls that normal size if you like them better. http://www.pittmangamecalls.com

Everybody's mouth is different, and if the call feels too big, trim some of the sides off until it's comfortable. Start out trimming off alot less than you think you need too. Even as little as a sixteenth can make a big difference. When I teach folks to use a mouth yelper, I tell them to start by just making noises, so that you understand how the sounds are made, and what sounds can be made. Essentially, you're learning how to play notes before learning the song. Then move to the cluck, which is a single note. Once you have that to where you can do it (Ididn't say do it well), move on to the chee-yalk of the yelp. BIG TIP. You need to move your jaw to do this. Do it as slowly as you can, one yelp at a time. It won't sound like a yelp, but don't worry. Gradually increase the speed and tempo of the chee-yalk until it a "chyalk", and then put two together, three, and so on. An afternoon alone and a sixpack and you'll have it. Carry one in your truck too[8D]!

My favorite is a knight and hale 4 reed, I can't remember what it is called. It had kind of a lightining bolt shaped cut in it and the reeds are green and the mouth-piece is black. I hope that helps!
