How is the "Quality Deer Management Experiment" (15" or larger bucks) doing at our WMA's??
What do results of 2nd year of "QDM" at Yellowbanks & Green River WMA's indicate? With all the 1 1/2 old bucks protected, do records reflect a large increase in 15" plus bucks harvested during "quota" gun hunts?
Does F&W have any "before", 1st year, 2nd year numbers they could share with us hunters?
What kind of harvest have the deer bow hunters had at Y'Banks & Green this season?
As always , Many Thanks.

I was talking with the Meade Co. CO the other day and he said there were over 600 people who put in for the Yellowbank Mentor hunt. I believe the selected 100. The kill was a disappointment I suspect. According to him, 14 total with only 2 being over 15", and both of those were shot by adults. Maybe the Mentor hunts need to be looked at if the results were the same at the other spots.

I talked with a FW employee yesterday at Green River WMA and he said the kill was about half of previous years. I think he said 54 animals were taken, with the largest weighing in at 205. Several nice bucks were taken.

I would like to think ALL the bucks taken were "nice" bucks with the QDM in place.

Many of the bucks harvested were "fuzzy faced" little button bucks.
"Nice" for frying and gravy, but, Not quite QDM material.
I don't have the data available here. I've talked to a few staff to find out what others have reported. We're real happy with 2nd year at Green River and yep, the Yellowbank hunt protected almost all bucks with only 2 taken. The mentor situation may indeed be looked at. Ole dad may be restricted to doe-only in future years for example. We'll find out which of the dads (or moms) are putting the young hunter first.
I'll get all the numbers soon and report year 1 and year 2--either here on or KDFWR web site.
