starting calling hillmans ferry yesterday and they were booking up fast. the majority of the people were paying up through memorial day weekend. called the last time at 3 oclock yesterday and they only had 7 or 8 spots with water and electric hook-up. took my camper down at 6 yesterday just to guarantee us a spot for the weekend. i got the last one in area c. that place is packed. gonna be impossibe to get a spot next weekend. be sure to call before you make a trip they are first come first serve. :)

Hillmans is one of the best campgrounds in the nation. We did a nine month lease in area C back when we were building our Marshall County home (1995). I don't know if they even do the long term lease anymore since TVA bailed. It was a great deal. Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day are the only weekends we witnessed this overload. Even then there were no electic brown outs like we've experienced in our campgrounds when they fill up to capacity. Great spot - have fun.

I agree! That is the ONLY camp ground we would go to when I was a kid, and in growing up. Even the Boy Scouts like them better I have found. As for any other ... I have visited them all, and Hillman Ferry is the only place to go.

That's the only place to go if you want the comforts of home. ;)

I prefer the more primitive campgrounds when I go "camping". If I want ac and a hot shower, I would just stay at the house and drive up to go fishing. :D

I don't like going somewhere on a mini-vacation and feeling like I landed in the middle of a giant trailer park. Just me though.

I have lots of memories from these campgrounds. I especially love the old showers in the back of the grounds. Theres nothing like taking a hot shower under the stars. Sucks that they are building all new showerhouses

Yeah, I remember that too. The only thing I didn't like was that it was like a big 'shower tree' in the middle, and everyone wanted to take a shower at the same time in the morning. If memory serves me right, the last time I went they had separate shower stalls.

I also love the primitive areas the best. I will not camp next to an RV or trailer area. They used to have sites where you could almost camp right on the lake. I haven't been there in 5 years though, so I don't know how it is now.

I wouldn't dare camp there during Memorial Day weekend. Just because it seems that every drunk in the camp wants to blair his music until 3 or 4 am. Not to mention that you can hear everyone's business in the late hours of the night.
