Do the Spring 2005 total results include the birds taken on WMAs, or do those birds need to be added to the total to arrive at a true total? Thanks.

I talked to Jim Lane on 5/17 and we had a very informative meeting.....He shared with me that the total harvest numbers posted on the KDFW website for previous years does not include the WMA totals. HE alos shared with me that we would be down about 700 birds this year from last.......He did not have a number on tags......
I have gotten totals for 2003 to 2004 and they show a hunter increase of about 4 percent.... That along with the fact that the harvest was down just over 4 percent and I have to be concerned with the gobbler population. We have had about a 10 percent decline in gobblers harvests in the spring since the record 2001 harvest. I have to assume we have seen at least a 15 percent increase in hunters during that same time.........It was my understanding that the commissioners would revisit the turkey opportunity if a significant increase in harvest was followed by several decreases in harvest. It seems like that has happened especially when you look at the increase in hunters........Yet they continue to increase opportunity drastically......I hate to think what 2008 could do ..........The spring season is set to open on April 12 that year and that is way before turkey mating should have taken place.

Questions: 1. Do you believe what Jim Lane is telling you on the turkey flock????
2. How does a 4% increase in tags sold equate into a 15% increase in hunters???
3. what did Jim Lane tell you about the increase in Fall oppurtunity(more hunting before the resource will feel the effects)????
