Indiana Fall Season Information
General Fall Turkey Hunting Regulations
Bag limit — one wild turkey of either sex per fall season irrespective of weapon.
Shooting Hours — 1/2 hour before sunrise to sunset.
License Requirements — Fall turkey license (resident and non-resident) plus game bird habitat stamp or comprehensive licenses (lifetime and youth) or license exemptions: landowners and residents on active military leave.
Fish and Wildlife Areas and Reservoirs — Those state properties with high hunter use or high spring hunter demand, may limit or disallow fall turkey hunting opportunities.
All other regulations pertaining to spring turkey hunting apply (e.g. shot sizes, gauges, non-electronic decoys allowed, no electronic calls, no baiting and no dogs).
Fall archery date — Oct. 1 to the end of the fall turkey gun season. A county may be opened if it harvested more than 30 birds in the spring or if it is surrounded by counties with a greater than 30 bird spring harvest and the county has been open to spring hunting for more than five years.
The fall gun season - date will be the first Wednesday after Oct. 14 and extending four more consecutive days through the following Sunday (five days). To open a county, the county must have greater than 25 percent forest cover in the open hunting range, greater than 75 percent of the county open to spring hunting during the previous 5 years and the county’s spring harvest must be greater than 200 birds.

Indiana’s 36th spring turkey season for 2005 will begin April 27 and continue until May 15.
Based on harvest trends and the number of turkeys hatched — statewide — the projected harvest is estimated to be 11,000 to 12,000 plus birds. More than 50,000 hunters are expected to take the field during the 19 day season.
The spring 2004 wild turkey season harvest was 10,765 birds in 78 of the 90 counties open to hunting. The 2004 harvest was a 4 percent increase over the 10,366 bird harvest of 2003. West Central Indiana county’s harvest figures were: Montgomery, 2003, 39 birds, and 2004, 64 birds; Fountain, 2003, 146, and 2004, 166; Parke, 2003, 301, and 2004, 346; Putnam, 2003, 135, and 2004, 134; Vermillion, 2003, 125, and 2004, 124.
Hunter success was estimated to be 23-25 percent for the estimated 45,000 to 50,000 participating hunters. About 56 percent of the kill occurred during the first 5 days of the season with 33 percent occurring on weekends. Seventy-six percent of the successful hunters killed mature gobblers, while the remaining 24 percent were jakes or 1-year-old male birds.
