Stupid jakes! I only saw TWELVE of them today http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/tweetz/scared.gif and I know that it was 12 unique birds because of where I saw them and the time frame. I saw one very nice tom that I couldn't work and I heard 2 or 3 more that I never saw. Saw 2 hens, and 2 coyotes. One of the 'yotes was rolled at 17 yards with some Winchester HV #6's. Shot him on the run after he spooked off my decoy, and he literally went head over heels and "rolled" ending up stone dead on his back.

I had a Bobcat attack my Decoy last weekend after some soft clucks to get his attention off a rabit. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen.

I agree next year should be great. Overall I saw 5 to 7 jakes but I bet over 30 hens. As long as weather/habitat is healthy, we should see a good hatchling year.

The coyote comment peaked my interest though as I shot two this year while hunting. I hunt up in Northern KY (Bracken) and was lucky enough to tag two adult birds. They were definately tough this year !

I have seen seven jakes this year. Sadly only five of them will return to make next year's season.:D Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever had a "bad" opener. Some better than others for sure.
