Had my first miss this year. I made a bad move and then had to take a running shot, killed an elm. Managed to make good on it and take a bird last Sunday.

I was 3 out of 4 shots this spring.
I've missed, misjudged the distance, shot trees, limbs, barbed wire, etc.- more than my share. How can you miss a three foot tall bird with a shotgun at thirty steps?? I still do, after 30 years of chasin' toms!
If your not doin' some missin', your not doin' much shootin'.
The answer is keep shootin'.

Valley,

You're right, I'm not doing much shooting. Just twice each spring.

Valley,

I miss enough upland birds during the fall season. Not saying a miss on turkey is not in my future, but using a single-shot, I make it count.

I missed one last sunday. Blew the crap out of a fallen tree limb that the turkey was looking over. I wish that I had a camera to get a picture of that turkey looking over the limb.

Made up for it on the last 2 days of the season. Went 2 for 2

season total 2 out of 3.

OK I admit it. On opening day I harvested a 17lb jake with a 4inch beard. I am very pleased! On the second day (Saturday) I went out after that big ol' boy I told you all about. Got him in around 35 yards and decided to take the shot. I missed him! never could find him closer than 100 yards after that. I will get him.

I used to wonder how people missed a turkey -- over the years I got about 7 or 8 gobblers under my belt before I missed one. I tag out in 2 states about every year and miss one about every 3 years.

Gotta take a good shot and know your gun folks -- many of those missed shots you take, well you are killing the bird just not taking it home. I might sound like a know-it-all, but if you are missing a whole lot, well you need a new gun, or you need to learn when to shoot and how. There is no reason to miss all the time -- you are taking shots you are not capable of making 90% of the time. Don't take "iffy" shots and kill that darn bird man!! Good luck on the last day to all!

Again, I miss every now and again too and boy it stinks. I will say, this year I had one standing as pretty as you please at 20 yards (too close) and lucky for a follow up shot to finish.

I just picked up turkey hunting this year. My first bird ever came out on my left (I shoot left handed) so I had to twist and turn. After sitting in this odd position for what seemed like 30 minutes, he began to slowly move away. He was about forty yards away and I had to make a decision. I looked down the barrel and tried to get a bead through the heavy breathing, shaking, and hearing my heart pound through my chest. I pulled the trigger and when I the smoke cleared, I saw my bird flying off. I went out and looked and couldn't find even one feather. I started having second thoughts about my gun and ckoke. It wasn't until my second chance a week later that I figured out what happened. The same thing happened in a new location. A bird came out on my left, I twisted and turned to get a shot. I starting counting to calm myself and looked down the barrel. It was then I realized that I was looking with the wrong eye! What an idiot I thought. I have been in the military and have shot many weapons, but these dang turkeys just had me so torn up, it was like I had never shot before. Luckily, I realized my mistake and bagged my first bird with two shots this season. 1 for 2 ain't bad.

2 for 2 for this ole boy. One in IN and one in KY. The KY bird turned out to be at 48 yards, didn't know my ole Mossberg 500 had it in it. I guess it just takes only one pellet.

I am 2/4 this year so far. I missed a big gobbler on the first afternoon of youth weekend. On opening weekend of the reg. turkey season, i killed a double bearded gobbler (my first bird--period). The next day i missed another big gobbler at 35 yards. And last saturday, i killed a nice gobbler, so im 50-50 so far this year (i still have the fall season left!). I cant wait till squirell, dove, etc. etc. lol!! Anything to pass the time!

I missed one. As did my son. I told him we weren't worth a damn. Had a heck of a good time, though.

Went 6 for 7 so far. Missed one on Friday in Indiana at 8 yards, think he was too far, LOL. I damn near jerked the trigger guard off the gun, knew I missed before I felt the recoil.

Leaving for WV tomorrow, one last hunt before fishing kicks in!

Watched a monster with a big hen at the other end of our field for over 5 1/2 hours in a light on/off rain.the rain would stop and we would watch them pick at there feathers and stand in place puffed up trying to dry them. as soon as they would start moving our way , the rain would start again. No lie these birds would stand in one spot drying , for 30 mins at a time.
they first came out at 11:45 , i finally missed twice at 28 yds at 5:27 according to the video i have of them running down the field away from us.
1st arrow was just low.2nd went right where i aimed , but the turkey was on full alert and jerked his head up and i got some feathers off his shoulder. He was ok cause they stopped to feed at the end of the field before disappearing.
i havent missed with a shotgun though.by this thread there is way more missing going on out there then i realized.
