I'm getting ready to buy my first trail camera and would like to hear which brand you guys would recommend. I've been considering one for a while and from what I can tell it seems like digital is the way to go. It looks like both Cuddeback and Steath Cam make nice units. Do any have adjustable flashes that won't alert the game or poachers?

I don't own a digital, but I bel;ieve several of the models out have infrared that don't flash at all. That would be the way to go. I'm debating on selling my basic stealth cams and investing in one cuddeback. I have yet to get a pic of a big buck, yet I've seen a couple real wall hangers on the place. seems as if I can seem em in the daylight I could get a pic at night! I'm sure quiet digital with IR is the way to go.

Personally the last thing I want to do is try and build one and have it not work. I'm not knocking anybody that builds theirs, it's just not for me. The Moultrie game came digital is on sale for 200.00 somewhere. Anybody got one of them?

I've built both digital and film units, it's not hard at all and you can save lots of $. Flashes don't scare anything, film winding for the next shot can, not an issue with digitals. The IR digitals are best for concealing the cam from people, but picture quality is sacrificed. I like getting printable quality pics.

http://www.hagshouse.com is a great site to learn to build your own.

If you go digital, I'd go with the Cuddeback, haven't heard any complaints about it, and haven't heard much good said about other ones.

It really depends on how much you want your cam to do, and how often you will use it and can get to it to change batteries, film, and check it. The Stealth Cam is good for the price, it does what it says and I haven't heard many people complain (I own one myself, got it from Bass Pro Shop). I also have a Sony digital camcorder that I have set up and used, and it works well too.

I have a Leaf River digital and it is sweet. Got the one with viewing screen but the screen is still too small for my 50 year eyes. I bought a portable TV and use it to view the pics.:)
