I went out and bought a rabbit distress call and set up at the end of a long mowed ridge. I started calling about 5:30 and just before dark I had one run out of the tree line at 100yards. I really didn't think I could get anything to come to my call since I wasn't sure what kind of sound I should be making. I blew on the call to get it to stop and then I layed the hammer down. Needless to say I missed the stupid thing. I don't think a .22lr has enough rage for yotes. I am going again in the morning but I think I might take my 30-06. I not playing games anymore. I really wish I had one of those new .17's I heard they are great for coyotes.

Sounds like you had a good start calling one in the first time out. If you are going to get a rifle just for coyotes I would go with something a little more powerfull than a .17RF. They don't pack enough punch for a coyote.

HELLO BLEVINS,
A 30-06 IS GOOD BECAUSE COYOTES ARE TOUGH AND INSTINCTLY DRIVEN. MY BUDDY SHOOTS THEM WITH A 30-06 AND SOMETIMES WE STILL TRAIL THEM FOR 100 YARDS OR MORE. I USE A 7MM THAT I DEER HUNT WITH. IT'S ALITTLE OVER KILL BUT IT'S WHAT YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH. THEY ARE TOUGH AND WILL RUN. GOOD LUCK!

I shot one a few years ago about 10 times with a 22 before he died, this may have been overkill but...
