Well, it was a fun trip, didn't tag anything, due to various reasons.
Had one bird commited, and had just closed the distance, and was about to come up to my set up when another hunter came blowing a crow call, er well I think it was supposed to be a crow, sounded more like a banshee screaming! :) Heard the bird flush. Another set up of blind calling on the edge of a rolling field on a rainy mid day was my fault, had sat there about an hour, finally decided to check another field, and when I eased up, a tom was standing in a draw at about 65 yards. Didn't see a beard, but his snood was drooping, so I would say he strutted in silent. Could have been a jake, or a tom, but I am 99% sure it was a gobbler.
Last good battle was about a 1 1/2 hour battle. I fought the tom and the tom won! :) I set up multiple times, he would never leave his strut zone. Finally he lost interest and left out, typical LBL birds. Heard 8-10 birds one morning, none on 2 mornings and singles on other days. Weather really put a damper on the hunt, but it is always fun just working birds.
Just wish I would have had an ole longbeard creep to within 40 yards of my "Strut Stopper".
Almost got a shot off at a yote, he got to about 50 yards and winded me and turned tail and ran.
