Theres been 19,550 turkeys reported so far as of last update. Do you think we will have a better year than last?
Has everyone been seeing alot of Toms?
Good luck the next several days, and congrats to all who have got one, or tagged out.
How do you fix your tag soup? LOL

I went yesterday mornin and the birds were gobblin it was the first time i had heard a gobble since friday. I got 4 jakes to come in to my setup but no mature birds even though they were answering my calls they are still henned up real bad. I went back around noon to total silence not a single gobble stayed till 6:30 last evening didnt see a single tom but i did see a few hens. I went again this mornin called in the same jakes but no mature birds were talkin. I trtied the turk2di whisperin method on them it was hilarious they were goin everywhere tryin to figure out where the voice was comin from. hope tomorrow mornin is better than this mornin.

Keep at them, they are there, and when you least expect it, one will gobble his head off at 50 yards and you'll wish you were ready, or still out there in some cases I guess.

The cool weather seems to be suppressing the gobbling a lot, but there's plenty of birds. If things turn this week, it should be close to a record season, but the weather doesn't look good?

Seems like most areas of the state have alot of toms this year. But the area I hunt in eastern Jefferson county has few birds. I have heard very little gobbling this year and they have only gobbled a few times on the roost. Either a poor hatch 2 years ago in my local area or there are a couple of real tough mature birds keeping the rest of them quiet. Anyone else hunting around Fisherville?

Agreed. The weather has supressed the numbers some. People seem to have given up in droves too. Just not seeing many hunters out. If the weekend turns as sour as it looks, we will likely fall short of last years numbers. We will make up for it next year;) Jakes everywhere.

You aren't kidding about the jakes. I have seen tons and tons of jakes this year.

If you look at the numbers there have been around 500 to 600 birds checked daily during the week. With rain forcasted for the next several days, I think that the harvest will be lower than last year. I agree that lots of people have given up hunting for the year.

Probably going to be smallest harvest since 2001. Not a good sign.

Yeah, maybe, but that makes more for the fall and next year. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050428/SPORTS09/504280475/1002/SPORTS

Maybe. However, maybe, thats an indication that too many toms were shot last fall and winter.

I think the reason that the harvest will be down slightly is the poor hatch in 2003. The result is a lesser # of 2 year olds. KDFW had told us before the season started this would be the case. On a good note the hatch of 2004 seems to have gone very well, as the number of jakes seen has been great. I would say when they are 2 year olds in 2006 we will see another record harvest.

I thought I remembered KDFW saying that there would be less 2 year olds out there this season. I know of several birds that have beenkilled locally and the majority a good 3 year olds and older. The board at uncle lee's is full of three year old birds.

I agree, a few less two year olds, and terrible conditions for the season. We had great gobbling before the opening day, so number of birds wasn't an issue. In my opinion, had the season opened one week earlier, we would have had another record harvest for sure. This week's weather will make or break that record.

At the lease i hunt on, it seems the hatch has been great! We are having a trememdous amount of two year olds, and alot of jakes this year. There are going to be plenty of 2 year olds next year to fill the woods with gobbles come spring!

Plenty of turkeys. Possibly too many in the areas around here. Late opening date as turkeys were breeding and nesting by April 09. Weather has delayed the "so called second wave of breeding." I have seen Toms strutting where birds have never been seen before. Shooting trap last Sunday and an entire flock of jakes and mature Toms come walking and feeding across the trap range, about 200 yards out. Paid no attention to five shooters on line firing 25 shots each...We are seeing very few hens now as they all seem to be nesting. What few we are seeing are around the edges of thickets and woods and go in and out very quickly and back to the originating area. More than enough turkeys for everyone. Just are not working to calls. Jakes are working too much....Just my opinion.and I have hunted these feathered buzzards for over 30 years.
