Well, my season lasted about 2 hours. I didn't get a chance to hunt in the morning on Wednesday, but I went in the afternoon. At about 4:30 a hen and jake came by my blind at the edge of a clover field. The jake passed less than 10 feet in front of me. I could have shot him, but I wasn't going to shoot a jake on the first day. He got a little nervous and went back in the woods. The hen got so comfortable that she actually laid down in the clover about 15 yards out from me and just sat for about 15 minutes. I could hear a couple birds walking around behind me in the woods. Finally, the jake came back out and started feedining in the clover. A while later I saw a male turkey head pop up over a slight rise in the field to my right. I couldn't see the body to tell if it was a jake or tom. I waited and waited, and finally, he came over the rise and worked out toward the jake and hen. He was a mature tom. I had to wait for him to get clear of the other two birds before I got a shot. I dropped him at about 25 yards. As soon as he fell, a second tom that I hadn't even seen came running up and started thrashing him. The second tom was not as mature. I guess he just jumped up the pecking order and wanted to prove it. It took forever for the second tom and the jake to leave. I will attempt to post some pictures. My tom weighed 21 pounds, had 10 inch beard and 1 inch spurs.
