this is my son's longbeard of the days. he killed it at 11:30. they weren't coming to cuts or yelps so he did a little fighting purr and the about ran over him. there were only 4. http://tinypic.com/4r6pn6

had an 11" beard, 1" spurs and we didn't weigh it.

i killed this one yesterday. he had a double beard but the thick main one was cut off like you had cut it with scissors. mine had a 10 inch second beard that was spindly and 3/4" spurs that were rounded off looked like they had been filed so they would be dull. i think he was an old bird. the TK2000 with 2.5 oz. of heavy shot and 110 gr. of ffg was hard on his fan.http://tinypic.com/4r6pls

Old bird with 3/4" spurs???? Sounds like a 2 year old to me. That would be like saying I killed a spike that must have been a nice ten point, but he rubbed all his dern horns off! My buddy killed a world record buck, but he killed him too late, he rubbed all his horns all the way down to the two smooth buttons. And, he lost weight all the way down to 35 pounds! TWO YEAR OLDS HAVE ROUNDED AND SHORT SPURS!

Kycurhunter,
I called in a bird on Wednesday for one of my customers. He had a 7 inch beard and 1" spur's. His beard also looked like it had been cut with a pair of scissors. Must have had beard rot.

One of the first turkey's that I ever killed, weighted 19lbs. 10 1/2 inch beard and he had rounded off spurs. Almost nothing but nubs, His breast feathers were completely worn off. I got him the last day of season. I think that he too was a very old bird but still a dominant bird.

Congratulations on both of the bird's that you posted.

Cool down, haas. There are also too many people on here that kill 4 year old 25# gobblers. Look at the posts, probably more than 50% of them say there turkey weighed over 22 pounds. Not sure that all the 2 year olds that are killed in this state weigh that much, nor are they all more than 2 years old. Most of these birds are 2 year olds, and I bet very few of the weights are correct.

My dad killed a bird that had 3/4" spurs and weighed 23lbs (only had a 8 3/4" beard). He was only 2 years old. You can never actually tell the age of a bird for certain, all you can do is get close. 2 year old or not, he is a great bird. I'll bet the hunt was even better! Great birds, congrats!!
