I Need Help With Bird ID

this morning while i was hunting for trespassers i came up on a dead bird lying in my field at first i thought it was a wood duck ..but when i picked it up i had never seen one of these before its a black bird with a orange bill and a red chome forehead (like a roosters) it has very big feet i figure its some kind of rail or something like that its feet are almost as long as my fingers legs are green..i been trying to do a search online and have come up with nothing so far...one of the oddest birds i have ever seen..curious to see what he is and why he was in these parts

Thats a neat looking bird, I don't think I have ever seen one.

Thats it...i thought i had seen everything until today...i wonder what caused his death...maybe a hawk/owl nailed him but thought it was to nasty to eat?
he was no where near any water source..thanks guys
