Here is a tried and true camp cobbler recipe. It is 'easier than pie' and is easy to carry into the woods with your dutch oven. In separate baggies of course.

1 cup sugar
1 cup of flour
1 stick of butter (real butter is best)
1 cup of milk
1 can of your favorite pie filling

Combine sugar, flour, milk, and butter in dutch oven and stir. Wait for butter to melt. Then, drop in your filling over top of the batter. Do Not Stir after adding the filling! Put your lid on and cover with 1 ring of coals on top and 5 or 6 coals on the bottom. Check in 20 minutes. It may take up to 40 minutes depending on the size of the coals. Best cobbler I have ever had!

I have been doing the camping thing all my life. Early on in the boy scouts we used a similiar recipe. A white cake mix, and pie filling. We used the pie filling in a can so no need to add the sugar.

Well, in my experience, if you don't use the sugar in the batter mix you end up with bread. Also, when you use a cake mix it tends to be more of a fruity cake than a cobbler. With this recipe, you get a more of a cobbler crust in it, as opposed to a cake type crust.

I've tried it both ways and it's all good..... add a little cinnamon sometimes. Also works well with pineapple instead of the peaches. If you've got a cooler with some ice cream, it doesn't get any better.

I have used that recipe , but instead of Flour, I used Bisquick. It worked good too. I also added smashed Cinnamon pieces that were soaked in Jim Beam, Allspice, and a touch of fresh Nutmeg. It was great I didn't have the Ice Cream, but I added just a couple spoonfuls of fresh cream to it.
