I'm going hunting wednesday here in NC. It's suppose to rain. What do you suggest my method be? How hard can it rain, and I still have success?
Has anyone had any luck in a good rain? I know they'll be out in the fields right after a rain, but how about a steady, or slow rain?
Thanks, Mike

hunt the edge of a green field that you've seen turkeys in. Some time during the morning, they'll be there picking.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Be patient. Just when you think they won't show up....tada....they will be there. Don't get discouraged by not hearing any gobbles either. Rainy conditions tend to make gobblers a little bit more tight lipped. When they do appear, a few soft clucks and purrs should do the trick. Good luck!

The bird I killed last spring was in the pouring rain. He walked so close to me I could have touched him with my gun barrel. I also got on another hot gobbler during a storm, my buddy's were all at the truck worried I would get struck by lightning, but this bird would gobble every time it thundered. The rain will bother you more than it will them.

Because turkeys rely on sight and hearing for defense, when it rains and it gets noisy in the woods, they tend to go to openings and fields so that they can depend on their sight. If it is raining as the sun comes up, expect them to stay on the roost alot longer than normal, and expect them to pitch down into openings and fields.
After the rain quits, it's not unusual to see them head toward a windy, sunny area to dry and preen their feathers.
Good luck, and whack one for us!

I was chasing a gobbler one day in a storm and it never would answer a call but every single time that it would thunder it would gobble its brains out. I ended up giving up on it, it was going away form me and it was raining so hard that you could barley see.

Hunting turkeys in the rain next to a field is easier than hunting them in a field when its not raining. If you can be out there, the harder its raining, the better. If its raining harder, the birds are more likley to be in the fields. They cant hear or see as well when its raining if theyre in the woods. Good luck on wednesday!
