Duster

From what I have seen the past couple days don't give up with just a morning hunt. Seems late in the afternoon I have had gobblers fired up around 4 pm. From the looks of things the hens are heading to nest after a short morning round and leaving Mr Tom alone and lonesome.

I watched one big Tom cross behind the house yesterday afternoon walk a few yards strut and gobble and repete till he went out of sight. No hens with him the entire time. The hens are passing thru around the house in singles or groups of two or three late in the day headed for the roost area nearby.

Good luck this season

I had one gobbling everytime I drew my bow back yesterday afternoon. Do you know how hard it is to keep a bow steady when there is a tom in the distance gobbling his head off?

Man, that martin must be loud if you can get a shock gobble from just drawing it! Maybe you should buy a bowtech! lol

Haha. I knew that you would chime in on that one. It was the weirdest thing. It was almost as if he could see me draw.

I was at my hunting camp as usual last weekend and as soon as i walked out of the door at 5 am, a bird gobbled. He must have been 200 yards away, he gobbled at the door shutting! I havent saw any breeding activity, but i know the hens are yelping and cuttinf their heads off, the gobblers are makin' thunder, and the guns gonna be blazin this weekend!!:D

Went out this morning at day break to sit, listen, and watch. Had 4 gobbling non-stop and and the trees seemed full of talkative hens. I watched two gobblers on the same limb about 100 yards away. The never gobbled. Flew down within 40 yards of me into the clover. Both would strut but neither made a sound. Like I said, hens and other gobbles go off all around them but they stayed silent. The finally walked off together in the other direction after about 30 minutes of feeding on clover. Both were mature gobblers. Seems strange that they were together and wouldn't gobble. Hope to see 'em again Friday morning!

Snood,
These birds may be mature gobblers but they are not the boss gobbler. Their is a dominant bird running around there somewhere and these birds are not going to gobble as long as he is around.
