Once you have them in an open field strutting by themselves what call do you use to bring them into range.
This is only a survey. I tried using clucks and purrs yesterday with no luck.

I'd use what ever call I had the most confidence in and try to find what he wanted to hear. Whether he like it soft or loud, agressive or subtle. Sometimes those old field gobblers are pretty tough to call regardless of what you do or use. Good luck

well depends. we usally set up a jake on top of a hen and if there is one that refuses to come in we get out the fighting purrs and the ol' gobble tube. awsome combo.

I would try moving away from them and calling, make it sound like the hen is leaving if they aren't going to come over and have a look.

most of the time but absolutly not all the time, if you will use decoys in this situation. Once he sees the decoys you probably will not have to call at all. But if you do keep it very soft.

Good Luck Ronnie

However, I did by a gobble tube this year, so I might give that a shot if nothing is working.

If he's hung up then the best thing is patience otr try backing out and another setup. calling usually wont make em break and come in, but I've had luck with gobbles in the past. Also if you aren't using decoys, have a buddy setup 50 or 60 yards behind you in the woods calling. This may help bring him right up to the edge of the woods. Good luck.

There are some birds that you can not call in. That why there are still birds for us to play with.

KSP - I think's it's illegal to mimic a turkey right now, so be careful.

If the turkey is strutting silently, I'll usually try a few clucks/purrs and possibly a yelp, and then judge his reaction. If I know that he heard my call (i.e. he immediately breaks into strut or gobbles), I'll usually just shut up and sit tight to see whether he'll investigate. I'll give him at least 20-30 minutes. If he hasn't moved, I may try a little cutting followed by silence to see whether that raises his curiosity. If he still won't move or respond, I may either try a gobble call or circle in the direction that I'll think he'll head when he leaves. As someone else said on here, some gobblers simply can't be called, and the only way to kill them is to be where they're going.

Try a series of calls. Make each series softer making the bird think that the hen is moving away from him. I have had success with this many times. Decoys are a big help in situations like this.

Try scratching in the leaves. It works well for me.

You can scratch the leave, or just stop calling. Give him one last soft call, and stop calling. HE thinks you should come to him, so as long as he knows youre still around, he aint movin. I know some gobblers will, but this is what i have found. If he thinks the hens is going away, he will usually come.
