Hey fellows I'm curious if you support a red dot or traditional style scope.
Can anyone recommend a red dot with magnification?

I have a Horton Legend SL with a multiplex scope. I have never had any problem with it in the 6 years I have owned it and never had to replace the batteries :D

Lamberneese could you tell me what you think of your Horton crossbow? I have just about decided on excalibur but I can get a pretty good deal on a horton. Any info you can share will be appreciated.

I have a red dot on my new Exocet. I like red dots, I use them on some of my hunting handguns.

I think it is a great bow. I have the multi range scope, which I do think is a must, because once you get it dialed in, it is on the money and stays there. I wish I knew who made the glass for Horton because it is exceptionally clear. The trigger has some creep, but the pull is not too bad... I don't think. Mine is 150 lb pull, but I am a big ol boy so that don't bother me much:D
It is also very accurate. But a word of advice, buy a 3D target or a crossbow target because a regular bow target will NOT stop your arrow, even at 30 yards. I found out this the hard way, by tearing the fletching off my arrows when they bulled through the targets.
Read my post in "buying a crossbow" for warranty experience I have had with Horton. So all in all, I would say that I am very pleased with this bow.

Get a crossbow scope...
My Excalibur scope has marks for 10,20,30,40,and 50 yards. When you shoot in the 20 yard mark the rest should be spot on.
The make a Varizone scope that you can dial in to match the speed of your crossbow.
The "recoil" from a crossbow is more or less reverse of a firearm and that will eventually mess up a standard scope.

Whats a magnified red dot scope going to cost anyone have any links to one?
shogan,
I use a "Hammers" brand 2X red-dot I picked up on eBay for around $50.
Have no idea who makes it, what it's track record is, or if it's even gat a decent warranty. It does seem to be decent quality, with good adjustments, and no parallax at crossbow ranges. I have it sighted in for 25 yards on my Excalibur Exocet and with arrow velocity around 300 fps it's plenty good for a dead-on hold on a deer out to 32 or 33 yards. (no more than +/- 3")
I used a Excalibur Vari-Zone scope last year, and it's super-accurate out to 50 yards, but you must know exact yardage, and there are just too many aiming points for this old hunter to choose between in the heat of the excitement of shooting at real deer ;)

Is that a crossbow scope or just an ordinary red dot
Just an ordinary red-dot. From what I read and see about any scope/red-dot will hold up well on the Excaliburs.

Shogan,
10pt has a magnified scope with 3 crosshairs preset at 20, 30 and 40 yards. It should work great for your new bow. Mine was $109 and came with rings. Excalibur makes a couple good magnified scopes as well. I don't know the price for those, but I have shot them and they look good.
Like Willie said, you want a scope made for crossbows and not too much magnification.
Good luck in your search!

I'm afraid that my short arms and the length of pull on the crossbow would make it more difficult to use a traditional scope. Where as a red dot would allow for a larger eye relief and thus not having to put my head down in such a way that would make it tough to use the scope.
I guess I could put a rifle scope on it just to see how it fits and then compare that to a red dot.
Still haven't found an a magnified red dot. ""It will probably cost as much as the bow"" I'm hoping a non magnified red dot will allow me to see the target and the sight at the same time ""something I'm not able to dow with iron or fiber optic sights"
As it stands I can not use the peep and pin at all there is no real way for me to seat the bow in my shoulder and be able to look through the peep with out holding the bow funny.
Further there is no forseeable way to cut the stock down to fit. ""And I'm not paying big money to have a stock built""
This is the biggest change I think will need to happen to crossbow is more adjustable stocks. We see it emerging now on the cheaper stuff but not yet on the better bows.

I told you that I had a red dot that you could try and see if you like it. It's a 2X I believe. Let me know?
