Call it what you want but this is the reason and plenty enough of it.
Bowhunting was meant to be, and is, a difficult and demanding sport. It requires a high level of dedication from its participants if they want to be successful on a regular basis. Today's modern compound bows, coupled with sight pins and mechanical releases, have done much to make it easier for beginning and also experienced archers to reach and maintain levels of proficiency necessary for hunting. Unfortunately, there are still those sportsmen who are not willing to put forth the time and effort to learn to shoot this equipment proficiently but who still want to be permitted to hunt during the archery-only hunting seasons. The crossbow is the perfect answer for today's opportunistic hunter who lacks the dedication and commitment required to be a bowhunter. He's not willing to play by the rules so he attempts to remake them to permit himself to use a more efficient weapons that is much easier to use.
I couldnt have worded it better if I had done it myself.

I might also add, for the sake that some moron will pipe up some stupid remark about the handicaped, that this does not apply to those that are physically challenged!!!!
Not even Multi, even though I know that you fit the requirements!!!:D

same old song and dance. just hunt with what you prefer and leave the rest alone. it's not a replacement for the bow, just as the compound is not a replacement for the recurve. it's just another option. to each his own. :)
my how some of us thrive on turmoil.

"Bowhunting is a fun, challenging, and rewarding sport. For many of us, it is more than just a sport, it is a way of life. Archery-only hunting seasons are not discriminatory. They are open to all sportmen willing to accept the challenge. We welcome you to join us."
Again.....well said here!!!

Tim, I'd be willing to bet that I can shoot rings around you with any weapon you want to choose, including a bow or crossbow. This just shows your disdain for others who have different views than you. Ofcourse we knew you were that way because we've seen your posts from over the years before you go the boot multiple times. And it's funny that you would mention not playing by the rules, because you one to talk. Just remember that things you say on the Internet could come back to bite you on the butt. Big brother is watching you. it's a matter of time.
Holler when you want to put your expertise on the line.

Speaking of elitism......I think you said it all.
By the way there multi, your right, you can probably shoot me under the table anytime. But I will tell you why......I have a little saying....
I AM A DEER HUNTER!!!!......when I am deer hunting.
I AM A DUCK HUNTER!!!!..... when I am duck hunting.
I AM A TURKEY HUNTER!!!!.... when I am turkey hunting.
and so forth and so on.
You see, I dont claim to be the best. My concearn is to consistantly hit the KILL ZONE. I am not too proud to admit it. It makes me feel no more or less if I hit or miss the 10 (or 12 in your case probably) ring. I hit the kill zone and thats what counts. Funny you add that comment though.....I just posted on your SCOPED thread. I thought you mentioned missing something didnt you. Well, maybe not missing, but just not KILLing!!!
And, yeah I am sure that I am being watched but thats OK, I see I aint the most vulgar on here anymore anyhow. You never saw me hint out the F word I promise you that, but I have seen it a few times on this round myself. If I go multi, you know that I am always just a click away if I feel the need. You would have a hard time without me!!! You hate to love me dont you?

To be honest with you Tim, your not much thought to me. you never add anything constructive to the board, and are always looking for the same thing each time--an argument. from what I'm told, you do the same thing in your job. And when I said your being watched, it ain't on this site. You figure it out.
I never said I was the best and didn't miss. That's why they sell shells in boxes instead of by the each. I just said I could beat you. you implied that your better than others because of what they choose to hunt with and I called you on it. You want to back it up, we'll put that to rest real quick.

Time has always been on my side and I aint planning on having that change today there Multi. Im sweating as we speak, but it aint because of your ignorant inuendos. Had you a clue, you would know that my job doesnt pose the opportunity to be argumentative. If I had a reason to be watched, it would be because my work quality has directly influenced all those who pay attention to me.......maybe you should watch and learn too!!!

Since you tried to keep people from posting more from this same pbs doctrine by saying we would be a moron to bring up the "handicapped" issue, here it is. This is from the same "mission statement" you just posted from. Shows how these guys will go to any length to keep ANYONE from using a xbow.
Requests for regulations to permit severely disabled sportmen to use crossbows during the archery-only hunting seasons are nothing more than a shameful attempt by crossbow manufacturers and supporters to gain a foothold

I have read and enjoyed this site for years ( I discovered it when I lived in Oklahoma about 7 or 8 years ago) although I have never posted on it until now.
I have got a lifetime crossbow license for Oklahoma and had a crossbow permit for Kentucky for the last 5 years that I have been home. So I believe that I can consider myself experienced in ACTUALLY hunting with a crossbow. While there are certain advantages, few as they may be, to hunting with one, I know that it takes a whole lot of dedication and time as in hunting with a compound bow to be able to efficiently use one to hunt deer, turkey or any other game animal for that matter.
I have had the same experiences here as in Oklahoma with a select few who would say- buy a crossbow, kill a deer - to those folks I say, give it a whirl, you will be surprised. The concept is the same, you have do your homework (scouting, scent control, wind direction, etc. etc.) to get close to the deer or turkey or whatever- it's called HUNTING.
Furthermore, crossbow, compound bow, howitzer, super duper magnum whatever your poison (as long as it is legal) most folks I know will not take the time to hunt past their own self imposed limit of 1 or 2 deer. Citing reasons of work, too hot, too cold, too wet, too sunny.....you get the picture. So why do we get all boogered about it? Think about it gentleman, unless as others have mentioned before, we get the dreaded newcomers and others who have dropped out of hunting starting or coming back.....all we may have left is to argue and that my friends is not the future of hunting that I wish to see.

And when it truely come to the skill of hunting.
How come you so called superior hunters are not against the use of
baiting,
hormone related scents,
tree stands,
artificial scent control
artificial camoflauge
box calls
electric calls
decoys
factory produced mineral licks
compound bows, all kinds of sights, lasers, wrist strapped draw supports
until you start boycotting all of these and more you are not truely pure hunters pushing your natural ability to hunt using only the very basic elements available.
Again when your argument does NOT succed to support the fact that inline archers should have a 6 month season not to be shared with any other kind of archers your argument fails and resorts to the well the deer population turkey population cant handle it. Again go back to restricting all the gadgets that improve the success rate not the weapon.
And then yet again we get back to your bottom dollar you don't want to share the woods.
And thats not an argument.
Here how about inline get Sept-Oct Gun in November and crossbow in December and January. Nah I like it the way it is now but boy your guys would have a cow woudn't you. Becarefull what you push for with the no sharing fight.

Good points/post shogun!
It's "odd" how allowing free citizens the choice of another weapon(an archery weapon during archery season) can cause such a reaction isn't it?
You're correct; it seems, after all the "excuses" for why it's bad, not ONE shred of facts/data, can they come up with, just it's our season(already addressed that issue) :D
You'd think they could accept what our Dept. has in place, and then look for some actual proof, but NO ; (let's take MY ball and go home!)
Very mature, (and they think they're "Elite"??) funny way of proving they're "the best" "etc.etc." ?????
News flash: archery is archery one WEAPON CHOICE doesn't make "you're way the only way", once you've accepted that; then perhaps you can move on toward something helpful???
IF the energy being expended on trying to reverse this ONE decision, were spent on obtaining more public hunting grounds (etc.), just think what may be accomplished????? OR more CO's or more $$$ for the ones we now have???? OR .....(get the big picture?)
Some "food for thought" ! ???
