I"m just trying to educate myself in the world of xbow tech.
Went to a archery shop and he blasted the PSE Viper said it was worthless and it would be better that I look at the Horton Yukon sl instead of the PSE.
The Yukon didn't fit me so I asked what was wrong with the PSE and the only thing he could say was the limbs were too short and would not last.
Anyone have any knowledge on pse.? Are they made by Tenpoint? Isn't Tenpoint considered one of the best?
Then when I asked him about recurve versus compound he really didnt give much feed back and said he didn't have any troubles with compounds ""Seems I read about how prone they are to breaking and getting out of whack".
Anyway this is the way I shop I analyse stuff to death before I make a decsion and there isn't much information on crossbows so any help would be appreciated.

Shogun,
Does the shop you visited carry the Horton line? Sounds like they just want to make a sale by blasting the bow that you wanted because of profit. I have been looking at several different Crossbows and settled on the Barnett Revolution series. If you read there you will see that the bow shoots 345fps and has alot of energy stored. And the bow fully outfitted with scope and all is under $325.

Yeah they had the horton and the viper side by side about the same price.
I too have considered the barnett revolution. But some on here have stated barnett was not a good brand so I was veering away from them. But I have read other web sites that listed barnett as a good brand (this may be a chevy vs ford debate).
Some claim tenpoint was a good brand but tenpoint and pse share some bows like the pse maxim is ten point bow. Maybe PSE has some good bows and some bad bows I'm starting to thiink they don't make their own xbows.
Then I still grapple with the recurve, they are lighter and quieter then most compound bows and any moron can change the string. But the extra money I pay for it would compensate about for 2 string changes so that would get me at least 4 years.
The hard part is there is not an abundance of xbows for us to sit side by side and see how they feel on our shoulder. And after just putting 3 on my shoulder yesterday I decided that one of the biggest decision makers for me will be how the bow fits.
Probably need to find an xbow site!

Shogan,
PSE does not make their own bows. You are right about 10Pt making the Maxim for PSE. They also made the Deerslayer. They do not make the viper. That is an import made in Taiwan. Horton made the PSE bows before 10pt. PSE tried to do a knock off of the 10pt and make it in Taiwan also (you can see it in there catalogs) I called 10pt to see if they made this bow and they said no, and PSE is not allowed to sell it due to patent infringments.
The Yukon is a much better bow for about the same money and is made here in the USA! The dealer was steering you in the right direction there.

Thank YOU for the information.
Ok with that said,
Beyond the weight of the pse maxim (it's a heavy one) (aka tenpoint)
Would it be considered a good bow and how would one rate it against something like the barnett revolution.

Better made bow, more accurate and more dependable. A good rifle is heavy As well. It won't shoot quite as fast (advertised) but you will hit what you are aiming at this year and several years down the road. Ask some dealers if they will say that about the Barnett.

Ok, kansas I hear what your saying. And thanks for the thoughts.
That narrows my choices down to Excalber Exocet on the high end and PSE Maxim on the economy end.
