Ok,
On a 300+fps bow shooting from a tree stand (30 yards or less) is there an elevation adjustment or since the fps is 300+ is it shooting flat up to 30 yards.

Just get a "pendulum" sight, and it will compensate for you IIRC to 30 yards! Probably the easiest way to go IMHO..

I'm going with a scope if if they make a scope pendulum it would cost a fortune.

Just put your 30 yard crosshairs on him and shoot..Just like you would put a 30 yard pin (vertical bow) on a deer and shoot. Of course you need good form and bend at the waist with a vertical bow..
Only with a crossbow you don't have to remember to "bend at the waist". :)

Shogan,
You might try getting a scope, bipod, tripod, laser range finder, heat seaking broadheads(not sure if those are legal yet) and last but not least one of those rear view mirrors so you can see the deer coming from behind you. These product should help you fill your tag this year!!!
P.S. Good luck and make sure you hold that xbow the right direction(faceing forward) that could be dangerous!!!

Sounds like you learned the hard way?

Oh yeah, and always remember what Willie said, "you don't have to bend at the waist" You use it just like you do a gun. Hmmm imagine that!!!

Who in this state would buy a rifle that only shoots for 30-40 yards??(even a 12 guage slug can beat that with a smooth bore!) :D
Also who would load powder/primer behind an arrow???
Doesn't sound like a gun to me???
IF it launches an arrow with a broadhead; propelled by a stirng; then it's ARCHERY equiptment;
if it uses powder/primer/bullet/slug/round balls/shot then it's a gun, having a stock doesn't change how it kills, nor it's effective range......
So I'm guessing you have to be "pulling our legs" with that one???

All the "real" bowhunters use those pieces of equipment now don't they?

aceoky you keep trying to use logic and common sense when it is clearly an emotional issue now. No way will you convince some of these guys that the xbow isn't hitler, anti-christ, and just plain evil. It has become a monster to them and they will never see the light. No, I take that back. Some of the biggest anti's will reform in a couple of years and be carrying xbows afield. Then they will allow xbows into their "real" bowhunters clubs. And nobody will remember who took what "side". Then we can get about the business of solving some real problems such as more lands to hunt, salary increases for those who enforce our game laws. Might even see some local clubs take it upon themselves to have a raffle or something to get the county's CO the equipment the state won't provide. Now there is a worthy cause.

The funny thing is: I've never even shot an X-bow! I really wasn't concerned one way or the other(but I'm always happy to get others into our sport) :D
Then the "bashing" started; I watched, read, kept my "keyboard" shut. I thought to myself, another CHOICE of weapon(and it shoots a broadhead too), and all of this AFTER almost 3 years of study!!!(but it was passed in haste???)....
AND THEN; there was the talk of bringing in politicians into the "mix" to "get our way" and why? Because some feel it's "their season alone", and are unwilling to share with more hunters! (Fine then, I'll take MY ball and run home!).....Seemed a bit "much" to me(at least)....
Some even went so far as to state that an x-bow is not archery(though it's one of the oldest forms thereof) :D
I've been a bow hunter for several years(though now I'm ashamed to admit it) :(
WHAT someone CHOOSES to hunt with(as long as it's legal) isn't the issue, the issue should be THAT they hunt, keeps our sport alive and growing, not "dying", but some have overlooked all the positives, and refused to give FACTS/DATA, and insist on their opinions(without proof they're remotely correct at that!!)
I've "preached" it before(often I'll admit) and intend on doing just that as much as I can! Hunting is a "dying" sport and UNLESS we get more people into it, instead of losing several per year(as we've been doing for about a decade), OUR days are numbered!!! That's the way it IS, not an opinion, if this is ONE way of doing it, then we should ALL support it! IMHO
I don't just "talk" about it BTW; I have a couple of ranges on the farm, and work often with young people , teaching them how to sight in a bow, rifle, etc. how to properly shoot, and add to their safety training, so I feel entitiled to speak about what I believe, and support,(and spend $$$ on every way possible)Both of my sons and my wife hunt and can reload when/if they want to do so.
Some agrue there will be more people on the WMA's ; so what, that's what they're for isn't it? Better that than the Dept to say , we're selling "X WMA" because it's not being used to it's potential???
NOW for those who are (honestly) more qualified than those in charge, WHAT are you doing here? Why aren't you doing what you're qualified to do(running game management???) IF you'r e NOT more qualified, then stop typing unsupported opinions, and get back to hunting topics, no one KNOWS for certain how it will impact anything YET, but those much more qualified than us, have their plans/goals and I believe they deserve a chance to be proven correct/incorrect??? Again, that is what they are paid to do, what is BEST overall for everyone, and the game, NOT a select few who feel "cheated" out of something that wasn't their's to begin with!(they have the right to change/regulate/abolish any season any time do they not??? Yes they do, so it was NEVER "your" season, then was it???? It was the Dept's season, and they have EVERY right to do what they believe to be best for our game/sport, as well they should have.
Again a study from 2002-2005 is NOT "hasty" by any stretch ; and IF you didn't know ; then YOU"RE to blame, not the Dept. there was plenty of discussion statewide, so some must have known about it??? Besides all of that how does YOU knowing change facts? I submit it doesn't , we have a team of individuals that are paid to KNOW what is best(in their educated opinions), and for THEM to know is relevant; not for every individual in KY; that's not needed, and a recipe for trouble! Too many only want what THEY see benefits THEMSELVES, and forget the rest, that's NOT the way things work, nor should it be iMHO! What is best for ALL ; that's what the Dept. strives for, and it's impossible to please everyone ALL THE TIME! That just can't be done, but overall, I think they do an awesome job; deer numbers are up(and book bucks from here are now the "norm" rather than the exception!!), turkey numbers are "unreal" for a state not that long ago didn't have a "handful". The Elk herd is growing rather well, also, it seems to me they "know a thing or two, about a thing or two"???
WE ARE ALL HUNTERS; and I believe it's time we ALL started acting like it!

I strongly agree with one part of this. The State has so many other problems concerning Hunting and fishing, and yet a few sportsmen want to throw the department a "curve" I think that before the xbow deal was ever brought up we should have looked at the real problems first. Instead of petty prob. like someone feels left out because they want to shoot a deer with with an xbow. Chances are the same indivuduals will be complaining 5 years from now that they want a slug season, just cause "ohio" does it!!

I went to the KDFWR website to check on "Rifle or Highpower" season. It wasn't there. I did find gun season. Now I think a slug gun is a gun, so they already have the privilege of using the slugster if they want to. And then I checked to find compound/longbow season. It wasn't there. There is an archery season. and wouldn't you know it, the crossbow is included there. Looks like they finally got it right.

Thank you as well, Gwilikerz!
I wonder who's "petty problem" is it anyway??? It's not the x-bowers! They get to hunt as they should during archery with an archery weapon; so IF there is a "petty problem" it can't be their's!
:)
More hunters; more $$$$$ more better!!!
