I'm tired of all the negative I for one am Pumped up about the Crossbow Season.

I found that with my compound bow I was shamefully ineffective and had pretty much decided I would not hunt bow this coming year.

I have hopes that crossbow will enable me to focus on shooting and not holding the bow. I'm not in this to test my strength.

Now what I see as most important to me (being legally blind in one eye) and less than great sight in the remaining is good optics. And being prepared for the proper distance to target.

What kind of optics work well for crossbow. Anyone have anything in mind for a one eye like me (this means I have no depth perception).

Keep in mind I'm on a budget my fixed income does not allow for anything that starts with the name Leupold. Heck I only want to spend 100 or so on bow, quiver, and arrows, so I don't want to spend 100-300 on a scope.

Shogan, your not alone. There are others. I hope you call your Commissioner and ask him to hold firm on the March 4th decision.

The crossbow companys all make decent scopes. They are paralex free ay 30 yards and most have range compensating reticles. They are mostly low power for large fields of view. You can also use the red dot sights. Either should work fine.

You would probably qualify for a crossbow exemption even if this decision gets reversed. If it is reversed I hope everyone that would qualify for an exemption swallows their pride and does a little creative "Doctor shopping" if needed to allow them to use the crossbow during the full bow season. Arthritis and other "old geezer" aliments should be worth something. The UBK boys seem to think a bad shot with a compound is better than a good shot with a crossbow. I admire you for admitting your current limitations.

If/when I buy a crossbow I'll look first for a good trigger pull even before optics. Your shots will be inside 40 yards and a quality red dot scope works great on the xbows I've shot. This past Wednesday I looked again at the line of 10X crossbows at the Orlando Bass Pro Shop. Nothing seems to really compare but you'll be spending some $$$$. Think of the 10X as the Benelli of crossbows. If you take a day trip up to central Ohio you can find an almost unlimited number of used crossbows in the sporting goods stores. A $100.00 bill probably isn't going to do it but they usually take guns etc in trade. I'm going to be up in Ohio this May for the last week of their turkey season. I'll probably buy a crossbow while I'm there. PM me and I'll give you my e mail address. I'll let you know who had the best deals. Good luck. Your opinion and story is just what the commissioners need to be hearing now.

I've avoided the crossbow issue for a while because every topic turns nasty. I think this is an unfair statement. I've never heard anyone form UBK or otherwise against crossbows say that they were against people with ailments using them during archery season. Shogun, if you're unable to draw a compound you should've gone to the doc's a long time ago. Sorry to hear you are unable to comfortably draw your bow. I hope you save the money and buy quality equipment when you do get into xbows. I can't imagine you'll get much of a setup for $100. Good luck with what ever you do. Regardless of which way the decision falls you will still be able to hunt with your new xbow.

some have a little magnification, but most don't. And batteries die sometimes when you don't need them to. But they work neat when they work.

dANG NOW I'M TORN

NEW BOW ($300+) OR USED BOW UNDER $200

NEW BOW BETTER QUALITY EASY MAINTENCE STRIPPED DOWN NO EXTRAS $325 OR CHEAPER BOW EVERYTHING WITH IT $310 SHIPPED TO MY DOOR.

I don't hunt enough to wear out a bow. So buying quality would probably be lost.

Which is quiter a compound or recurve crossbow?

And if I buy a used 1 and I'm not crazy about XBOW I can always sell it and be out a few bucks at most (Unless I get a worn out POS that breaks after I get it)
