Im looking to buy a camera to take with me to the field. The main specifications I would like the camera to have is, be compact and have a decent zoom. The camera does not have to be digital but just take some quality picture from a distance. Im trying to stay in the price range of $250 or less. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't have any specific recomendations other than try and get a digital. You'll thank yourself later. So many times I've had rolls of film developed and even after taking a hole roll of one deer I was disapointed that none of them turned out good. That doesn't happen now that I have my digital. I know within a second or so if the pic is worht keeping. Long range photography will cost you! I don't know exactly what you are looking for but most point and shoot cameras don't do to well at very far a way.

Ditto on what Skin said, to achieve quality pics from a distance, your going to need good optics, and mega zoom. You can get a decent digicam for under 300$, but I don't think your going to get the quality of pics you want at long ranges with one.

be sure that you get the highest mega pixels possible...the more the higher the quality of the pics you are going to get...
