I'm thinking about getting one of those foodsaver vacuum packing system. I think it would be handy to have for game and for stuff out of the garden. The one concern I have is that the bags seem to be a little pricey. So do any of you have one, know someone with one, or ever used one? And if so is it worth it or should I just stay with good old freezer paper and zip loc bags?

I love mine also. Use it to keep summer sausage fresh, jerky fresh, and package all of my game and bulk meats.

Best product I have ever used. I will not process my game or fish without vacuum sealed system. The best bet is to buy the rolls intead of individual bags. You can make any size bag you want from the rolls. I know what you mean about the price of bags, but you can wash out, dry and re-use them. Also when you throw away game or fish because of freezer burn or ruined meat from so called "freezer paper" how much money are you saving? I use mine weekly as well as taking it to Canada to put my fish in. Go out and buy it,you will be glad you did.

I really like mine,I package my deer burger in 1lb packs and freeze them flat. 20lbs of flat packages takes up a lot less room in the freezer than 20 rolls

Thanks for all the advice guys. Now I have to decide if I want to spend my Bass Pro gift cards on a vacuum packing system or the Digital Stealth Cam that they have on sale from $279 to $179. Choices choices choices. Both Maybe?:D

I love my foodsaver, and really a roll of the bulk (not pre-cut) bags last a long time. Most systems come with a decent number of bags and then you can find value packs of bags too. Now that I have one, I can't imagine processing Game without it.

Save more by getting the black and decker bags. They work with the food saver and are $1 or so cheaper per roll.

here's a tip...........if you are sealing something with a lot of water content......fold up a paper towel and place in bag just under where you will be sealing the bag...it will stop water from being sucked out and causing a bad seal

Have had one for two years. Best investment I have made.. Can package my game and fish in sizes for a good meal and it will keep for a year. When Pork loins ect are on sale at store I buy several and cut and package for chops and loins and they will keep for ever. No freezer burn. As shogan stated above be sure and buy one with the eazy bag cut off built into the machine. Very hard to use "sissors" and make a true cut that will seal correctly...I even use mine to package matches, fire starters and other item for camping and fishing that must be kept dry..Just packaged my turkey legs and thighs for later cooking.
