I posted the following message on the Excalibur website and so far have only received joking replies as to changing the name of the UCBK. The suggestion has been KFC. Funny, but I'm looking for more serious opinions on a name change. Any suggestions or do you think the name should stay?

As a suggestion, I wouldn't name the new crossbow organization UCBK. The name and acronym are too similar to the UBK folks.

Something like Kentucky Crossbow Association, KCA or Crossbow Hunters of Kentucky, CHK or something along those lines seems like a better choice.

From a marketing and a business perspective I think a different name would be more beneficial. Why associate your organization by name with another organization that is against what you stand for?

Why the urgency to change the name?

I wouldn't term the name change as urgent, but why start a new organization with a name that doesn't fit. Corporations spend big bucks on finding suitable names for themselves either as name changes, spinoff companies or new entities. They realize the importance that a name plays in identifying yourself to the public.

People would most likely hear the acronym UCBK and they would either be confused or associate UCBK with UBK. Again, why create a new organization with a name that is so similar to another organization that is against you?

I would have to say the name really isn't that big of a deal. The "club" was formed to promote crossbow hunting in Kentucky, so the name pretty well fits with the idea and intent, I think.

Sevcrist... Are you a member of the UCBK ? I notice this post about name change is only number 2. Another screen name maybe ? I don't see a big hurry if ever the need to change the name myself. Just a curious UCBK member asking a simple question.

Nope, I'm not a member and these are my first posts. But I am considering a membership. And I have to disagree, a name is a very important part of any organization.
