I need ideas for a two man late-season tent for hunting in the mountains of Montana. I need a durable tent, but it doesn't have to be able to take Everest. A quality 3 season, or 4 season for less than 200. Is that possible?

I'd suggest a wall tent with a wood stove or a camper. Late season in Montana can be 25 below zero. My last late season hunts in MT were brutally cold with snow 2 to 3 feet deep. If you are in Eastern MT, you can expect high winds as well. However, this past season was very mild so you might get lucky.

Under $200.00,, don't think so, but I have used the 12x12 pyramid made out of 12.6 oz Sunforger cotton with a stove, it keeps you warm and will hold up well in the wind,, goes up easy, and they have used ones,, maybe,, check it out at

Mine's under Satisfied Customers (http://www.strinztipi.com/testimonials/testimon.htm) ,, JW Baker (http://www.strinztipi.com/testimonials/testi4.htm), I lived in mine for 3 or 4 months here in Kentucky durin the winter of 03,,
get the back window put in for the summer,,,

Check on e bay and type in Kelty. I bought a 5 man Kelty Mantra 3 season tent for 210.00 brand new from a place in Montana called Bob Wards. It's a big sporting goods outlet like Dicks. They have had a lot of these type tents on ebay lately and a couple went for less than 100.00. (I found that out after I bought mine but still got it cheaper than they normally sell for.) Just depends on whose bidding as to how high they go. Kelty has a lifetime guarantee and thsi Bob Wards outfit will take returns with no questions asked if you wanted to return it. There are also some individuals that have Kelty brand tents on there.

I would look at www.campmor.com and check out some of the northface tents. I have a 2 man northface tent, and would not trade it in for anything. They also have a huge selection of other brands too, and their prices aren't too bad at all.

Check out Cabelas. I bought a 6 person Eureka - 4 season tent not too long ago, and I think I paid around $200 for it.

But I agree that you may need a high wall canvas tent with a nice stove in it for serious late season camping. It will feel like a Holiday Inn as opposed to a camping trip where you freeze your toes off, and spend half of the time chattering your teeth.

Tex, you did not say if you needed to carry the tent into the mountains or are you camping near your vehicle? I have been on several of these trips and my suggestion depends on where you are camping.

Louhunter is right on the mark, depends on where and how your going and what part of MT.

You might look at the new bear proof tent.......Holiday Inn, Missoula..... LOL.

Have fun, most beautiful state I've been to, besides Kentucky of course!
