Spent the weekend turkey hunting on this farm down south. The owner had turned 2 miles of powerline into a solid mat of clover. One of the best/cleanest stands of clover I've seen.

Some power companies actually have money funded to help landowners with such project where the power lines are already on the land. I know that KDFWLR has supplied the company I work native grass seed for such projects.
You can check with the companies in your area, they can supply spraying to kill out the hardwood growth under the powerlines and then the falling year you can proceed with seeding.

Skin_dog,
What is NWTF program for powerlines?
Assistance for private land owners?
Providing herbicides?
Providing seed?
NWTF have soil prep and seeding equipment for private land owner assistance?
Any pretty powerline right of way clover patches here in Kentucky yet or just "other places"??

Fellas, I dont want to rain on the parade here but, I noticed in the edgeline all the dead stuff, typical with powerlines. I know they(power co.) spray to kill the growth as to not interfere with the power lines. wouldnt the spray contaminate the soil and in turn produce a not-so-healthy foodplot?
Good lookin plot though

seems they would have to use a safe herbacide. farmers spray the field all the time for weeds after crops have started and such. just look at the human race, healthy, never sick, no cancers.

I was in a meeting today with reps from Touchstone Energy , Jeff Holhman from East KY Power and I duscussed some of the project money available for food plot work in KY. THey have many miles of line around the state and several co-ops are working with the landowners to help produce more wildlife habitat within the powerline right of way, yes they can spray to help kill off the undesired but they can also doze and seed the areas with native grass and improve the area too. If you are on a member of one the co-ops or they lines on your property check into the program , 50-50 cost share on most projects.
