I am going to frost sew some ladino clover the end of next month. The plot already has grass established in it. I am going to have some spare time this weekend. Would it be ok to spread some lime? It needs it I am sure. Thought maybe the sooner the better. What about if it snows, would that matter?

If your talking Quick(pelletized) lime, I'd wait. If you put it on now, some of the effect would be wore off by spring.
It would be OK to apply Ag lime anttime, as it takes awhile to desolve. What kind of grass is on the plot????? Most of the time the experts recommend Amonia nitrate in the winter to promote rapid green up in the spring. It's also good to put this on honeysickle.

I don't know what kinds of grass is there now. It was used as pasture and has not had anything done to it for a few years. Just mowed. I would like to get the clover established in it. How much more does the quick lime cost and how long does it last? How much is needed compared to ag lime. My plot is about an acre and I had planned on putting about 2 tons of ag lime on it. I know that I should get a soil sample to find out exactly but I think I will just wing it. Thank you for your help.

If you plant ladino clover how often will I have to replant. How often should I apply lime and fertlizer. How often should it be mowed.

I'm sure the grass in your plot is fescue.I wouldn't waste my time or money planting anything until the fescue is dead and gone.I'd get a soil test.It will probobly need lime.Lime now and plow it under.Disc it up in march and sow ladino. The soil test will probobly recomend some fertilizer with no nitrogen.

You won't have to replant ladino,it's a perenial. You will have to mow.If you don't,weeds will take over.Ladino really does well after it's mowed. You should get a soil test when you plant and follow the recamendations. After that,if it looks good each year,I wouldn't worry about it.

Most ladino patches need re-done in 3 to 5 years depending on how good you keep it up.

Hint--you need to mow it to keep the grass in control. The clover will outgrow the grass, so keep it mowed about 3 times a year. Keep the ph high and acid loving weeds will not be a problem.

Thank you for all your help as always......Say I sew the clover middle of next month. When should I mow it the first time and how low should it be cut?

Just don't let the grass or weeds go to seed. The clover will flower when it needs to be cut. If it's thick, you need to pick it up or bale it to keep from snothering the rest of it out.
