I will be moving to the Danville area and am wondering how the deer, turkey, and waterfowl hunting is. Is there any public ground around this area that has good hunting. What all kind of wildlife is there to hunt in this area? Thanks.

If I am not badly mistaken, the new Dix River WMA is located on 39 just outside of Crab Orchard. Should be some rabbit hunting to be had there, maybe quail. I believe it is an old corn/dairy operation that was deeded or leased to the state. Fairly small. Good luck with it.

Gotta go back in the knobs to find them, though. My mother and father were raised right around Crab Orchard. What part of the thriving metropolis did you own?

I know Boyle county better than the people who live there. :D I worked the entire county and surrounding areas for years and thats where I hunt. Looking at Boyle county as a whole, your best area for hunting will be the western half of the county especially the southern portion out towards Gravel Switch. There are lots of knobs and woods out there. The eastern half is Danville and it's suburbs with horse farms and all- not much hunting there. Heres the areas I'd advise for what.

Deer- Forkland Area to Gravel Switch

Turkey- Between Mitchellburg and Perryville (also Wards Branch and Scrubgrass areas.)

Quail- Triangle area between Perryville, Springfield, and Mackville

You can really catch some ducks and geese flying through the central portion of the county in January. I have some neck jewelry form there.;)
Hope this helps.
