Since all who choose to use a crossbow are lazy hunters who don't want to practice. We will all take bad shots at 100 yards and wound deer and tarnish the image of the "true" bowhunter.

All the post on this thread have been sarcastic. Yours are the only ones who seem negative and out of context. Sounds like you might fit in with us crossbow guys. We are sneaky you know. (humor and sarcastic again)

It still amazes me the hate that the bowhunters have for the crossbow. It will have no negative impacts on the herd in KY. It will have very little on the "bowhunters" themselves and it will have lots of positive impact on the local and state economies and the archery hunting community. The more members in an organization or group, the stronger it is. The selfishness of a few loud bowhunters can cause serious damage to the whole hunting community.
My grandpa always taught me to share the woods wth as many as I could. It is a wonderful place.:)

i dont see where it is gonna have a negetive effect on anything, i have hunted with a crossbow for the last 5 years due to illness and i have spent hours and hours practicing still wouldnt think of taking a shot after 40 yrds but if anyone would like to see just how one shoots for real they are more than welcome to come shoot a few shots just so they can see crossbows dont have a advantage over the new compound bows (or if they want to bring their bow along for a little friendly free hand shooting at 40 yrds i wouldnt mind showing them what a little practice can do because practice makes perfect ):D

But if they saw first hand, then they wouldn't have an argument.
The only negative effect it will have is that on opening weekend, there may be a few more people in the woods spooking the "bowhunters" trophy buck.
Other then that, it is all positive

I would guess he would back you if somebody took a shot at your Grandpa.
I'm just here for the crossbow stuff and thought I might be able to help some people out that are new to crossbows. Just trying to help out other sportsman. I enjoy the outdoors and do like to share it and my knowledge with others if they are interested.

Unfortunatley, I'm not out there right now. There are certainly some monster bucks. Whitetails and Mulies. I'm actually a quail hunter at heart.
I'm in Ohio now, and ther are big bucks here too. Seasons come and gone, so we chat until next year.
As for meelmouthing, I have an interest in crossbows and like to see how other states handle it. If I can answer an occasional question for somebody, then great.

Looks pretty SKILLFUL to me...
The trouble is these naysayers equate mastering a hunting weapon with the actual hunt itself.
No hunting tool will hunt the deer/turkey for you.
A crossbower still has to use his hunting SKILLS to get with the required distance of the game he is pursuing..
Congratulations to you and your wife on your archery shooting..

Mr Gailor is not my commissioner, but you were partially right, I did call my commissioner and voice my opinion and he did change his mine, I assume because of getting many calls such as mine.

I appreciate the apology. No hard feelings. The crossbow topic sure stirs some serious emotion. I think that isn't always a bad thing. If nothing else, it makes one realize how much this sport means to them. We are all on here because of our love of the outdoors and the hunting that we do. We all need to be more passionate about it everyday, not just when a change shows up that we don't approve of.
Once again, thanks for the apology!:)

Turkeyssss,
Find a good bow with a good trigger and go out and have fun. Crossbows are not 100 yard weapons, and that is the best place to start. 40 yards max, and really 30 and in is best. I've sold crossbows up here in ohio for about 8 years so I have a good idea about what works and what doesn't. Some of it depends on how deep your pocket book is. You can find bows for about $200 and up, but I would save up and try and get in the 350-500 range to start with. More if you can afford it. 10 points and Excaliburs make the best all around bows, but they do cost more. They have better triggers and that really helps with accuracy. The gun hunter's will understand this very well.
Talk to people on the site about what they like and what they don't. I'm not all that familiar with the stores down in KY, but go some where that has several different models. Some stores will even let you shoot them. That is the best way.:)

There is one fact that ol' Ben Franklin had right. We must all hang together or we will most assuredly hang separately. Hunting in all forms is under constant attack by various groups that would like to see all hunting eliminated. We as hunters need to figure out how to work together, not wasting time and energy attacking each other.
As hunters, we all need to become spokesmen for our sport and portray it in a positive light. And our sport is hunting.
