Now that the useless month of March is upon us, I thought I look forward to warm weather and show you my favorite canoeing and camping spot- the Narrows of the North Fork in Breathitt and Lee Counties.

I try to make a couple trips a year down there. Great scenery, great fishing, and no crowds.
Well.......there used to be no crowds before you showed us that pic and told us where it was. When are we going? :D
Beautiful pic. I can see why you like it there.

You got the right idea, ecm. When you're done soaking up sun in the innertube, you can check the lines for catfish whilst I get the fire going. Bake some onions, taters, fry some catfish, and wash it all down with something out of the cooler- man, that's just a little piece of heaven right here in Kentucky!
When the sun goes down, you can go try for some more cats if you want, but me, I'm going to sit here by the fire and watch the river go by.

Yeah Jeremy, you might twist my arm and get me to give directions to my little paradise.
Wait for a dry spell so that the KY is running clean and clear. Water should be around summer pool for good fishing and a nice, slow canoe pace. Hie yourself up to Breathitt County, Jackson in particular, and rent, borrow or steal a canoe, and slide her in and you're on your way. Ease down the river a few hours, til the houses and roads and 'lectric lines fall behind, and when you think you're in the boonies, then it's just gettin' right. Throw some spinners behind the rocks, wade the shoals and cast the eddies, and maybe land a couple nice smallmouth for dinner, (but make sure you throw most of them back:) .) When the sun starts easing down behind the mountains, find a spot up on the sand bank to spend the night, (but watch your step, and help the missus, cause the river bank's always kinda slick and muddy.)
I like to take a lawn chair and set it to where I'm looking out over the sand bar and across the river. Keep a little driftwood fire going to bake the taters, make a little smoke for the skeeters, and just to provide a little comfort. You can fish, gig frogs, or just sit and watch the river carry the night right in. ( In years past, I might have been rumored to indulge a bit and maybe skinny dip and maybe run naked through the rapids, but you'll only hear that from folks of dubious character and doubtful integrity, so just never you pay no mind to such trashy talk.)
I recommend that you stay up late and enjoy the evening, and when you get up the next morning, don't be in a rush to move out and move on. Sleep late, fix a big breakfast, and afterward, if you didn't sleep well the night before and feel the need, take a little midmorning snooze. Noontime is time to pack up and hit the water, and ease down to the point where a good friend is waitng with the truck to take you back. Or, just float on by and wave and tell him you changed your mind, and you'll get home in a day or two, or three, or maybe you'll just take a week and float on down to Camp Nelson or even downtown Frankfort, it just depends on how long the food holds out.
If he has canoed the Kentucky, he'll understand.

Adam, I don't think that guy has been a problem since about 1975...didn't somebody shoot him off a cliff or something? Anyway, ol' Cuzzin better keep his distance, cause there' usually a fine assortment of firepower in the canoe, some for fun, like 22s, and some for serious, like double-naughts.
I won't watch that movie, and you can't make me!:D
