Here it is, I don't see how all the misinformation about this question took place. Read it and weep. ;)

Not to start an argument, but do you know what they meant by "Archery Hunters Only"? Does that mean people who use only stick and string, and do not use gunpowder at all? Also, do you know whether this means hunters of all species, or was it restricted only to deer? Was a question specifically asked with respect to turkey hunting?

Again, this is not a challenge--I'm just trying to learn more about the survey.

The numbers that jump out at me are the strongly oppose and strongly favor. When you compare them to the "somewhat" column, this data suggests that if folks have an opinion, they are pretty firm in their stance. That would certainly be supported by the tone of the debate that has and is ongoing.

As Mr. Spock would say, "Interesting."

Sky--I asked several question about this survey when it came out. One was how they determine who the responders are. That is - it's asked in other questions on the survey. And no, hunters who hunt with a bow are archery hunters, be it longbow, recurve or compound. Archery only hunters would seem to mean they don't gun hunt, but i'm not sure that I asked that because it wasn't an issue then.

Archery Hunters Only means that those who hunted with archery equipment at that time were the only ones who were supposed to answer that section. It does not mean that they are not gun hunters as well.

Someone mentioned this to me, I'm not sure, but I think they claimed it happened at the meeting in Frankfort related to the legislative caucus. ( I'm also fairly sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) According to the source, during the meeting, which had a fairly large number of active hunters in attendance from a wide variety of clubs.....at some point in time someone asked the question regarding some particular survey, "Who received the survey?" in response several guys all sitting together in a row in the back raised their hands. And, why was this interesting?.........They were all Fish and Wildlife employees. No other hands were up. I did not see this that I recall, maybe was out of the room at the time. Did anyone present, remember this?

I started a thread a few weeks ago on this site asking who received a survey. To date, over 12,000 people have viewed this site and not one person has been found who received a survey.

Maybe surveys are being sent to Friends of Animals or PETA by mistake :)

Hello out there, is there anyone who has ever received a survey???????????

Noted that another UBK member questions the validity of the survey. 4444 responders, several more than those at the caucus or employeed by KYDFWR.

I am not a UBK member but I am a member of the KTBA. Also, I personally could care less what a person hunts with as I choose to do it my way. I have however been asking every person I know that hunts or who I suspect may hunt about the surveys. To date, no one knows anything about them whatsoever. I would like to see a survey other than one that is 3 years old. That data is not valid today as people move and change their minds along with numerous other things that may cause them to answer differently today.

Conducting a survey the size of the one done in Fall 2002 is very expensive. I seem to remember this one cost about $20,000. We have the lowest paid employees of any state on our border and of the 15 states nearby. Seems that pay raises would be in order before spend thousands on more surveys that would show the same results or even a more positive slant toward the crossbow. Times are changing and lots of other states have made this change all with good overall results.

Multi: Bowcrazy is not questioning the validity of the survey, he is just asking if anyone got one. He may think that, but he didn't say it. Not necessary to "twist" his words and read his intent.

Bowcrazy:

1) I did not get one and don't know anyone that did, but I believe it was done.

2) I did not hear anyone ask the crowd at the meeting if they got a survey to fill out. You must remember that I can't hear very well (old M-1 Tanker) and the crowd was very noisy, so it may have happened.

3) I am surprised about the Department employees raising their hands from the back row. I didn't see any Department employees sitting there (I was on front row), but when the meeting started, all the Department employees I saw were sitting on the sides, mostly on the right, and I never saw them move their hands.

Hope this helps.

WBBP I have to disagree with you. bowcrazy is questioning the validity of the survey. He even said he didn't think the numbers were "valid".

He's asking if anyone received the survey! If the end result is the validity of the survey then so be it! I do not know anyone who took the survey. Like WBBP, I'm sure it was done, but I would like more info on how and who it was administered to.

AteUp you are right. My apologies to bowcrazy. I read the wrong post. bowcrazy said nothing about the validity of the survey. That came from another's post. Cut me some slack, after all I am an old fart:)

No apoligizes needed here. Bowcrazy is trying to say that the Dept. never took the survey and made up the data included in it. In essence, he's saying Gassett is a liar for quoting the survey in front of the Commission. It's all related. You don't believe the survey, then you believe the Dept. is lying to push a hidden agenda.

Tom:

You are trying to get into the mind of Bowcrazy. That is not what he said. I know you like the "facts" of a discussion, why don't you stick to them and stop trying to be a mind reader? You don't have a liscense to do that

Bowcrazy is a personal friend of ours, he deserves better.

I doubt Bowcrazy would piss on me if I were to explode in flames at this point.

Looks like we can settle this by the link I posted in the other thread. 3 people from the forum got the survey--Ky. Headhunter, mossyhorns, and Boss Gobbler.

Case closed!

Tom: Thanks for spending the time and researching this. This does clear up some questions on other posts.
