Gave winchesters new ammo a try through my 835 today. At 40 yards I put 38 pellets in the head and neck. I thought that was awesome so I went back to 70 yards(although I would never take that shot at a turkey) and put 12 pellets in the head and neck.

Sounds pretty good boss gobbler. Which hi density load and what choke in the 835?

I used #6 shot 3 1/2". I used a kicks 670 choke for above results, but I also put 32 pellets in it with the mad max choke at 40 yards.

I've been hearing nothing but good about the Extended Range shells.

I wonder if there are going to start being rules put out on chokes and shot and stuff for turkey hunting so you can't shoot quite as far. Just like the bows that keep coming out though I guess. Every manufacturer wants something that is going to let you put something out there faster, further, and more accurate, so I wonder if there will ever be any counter actions to that. Any thoughts?

I would say shotguns are getting pretty much maxed out same as ML's and compounds. 12 pellets at 70 yards is impressive. I guess it would be a sure fire killer at 60 yards if there is enough energy left(I assume with the heavier shot it would be)

12 pellets at 70 yards would be a dead turkey at 70 yards.

The Winchester ammo is a buck or two higher than hevi-shot from what I'm seeing.

A the Shrader Show Harold Knight was giving the ammo the thumbs up. Where did you find the ammo, I have not seen it in Louisville yet.

Thanks,
Mike

I shot a few rounds of it yesterday and was not overly impressed. At 30 yards it shreaded a target to pieces, but at 40 and 50, I was disappointed. The groups went south in a hurry. What size shot and wieght are you guys shooting? The shells that I shot were 2oz. Could that be too heavy?

I have personally found with heavi shot. (Haven't tried the Winchester stuff) that less choke is more. I use a factory full choke in my 870. At 60 yards I can put 18-20 #5's in the kill zone. With the Remington Super Full turkey choke, I get blown or "donut" patterns. With those results, I don't see the need for someones over-marketed choke tube for $60.

Wonder?? What is the trajectory for that shot string at 70 yards?? How high do you have to hold??
Getting to a range were a 6-power scope would be handy. Dang.

I held the sights in the middle of the neck. I did notice a swarm of about 20 pellets that were low. If I would have held for its eye it would have had more in the vitals.

This ain't my pattern...It's another fellers...Just thought I'd share it with ya

This load of Winchester Xtended 3½" 5 shot was fired from a Remington SPS-T with a .675 Remington Hevi-Shot choke at 40 yards....210 hits in a 10" circle!

Saw some xtended at Gander Mountain today in Palookaville.

That's one awesome pattern, Tim. I've always been happier with Winchester Ammo.

Was that a 10 or 12 guage?

Best I've seen from a factory load if its a 12 guage.

I'm going to buy some of those shells!!!! Do you think ill be able to find some at wal mart? I had a chance to buy some at Bass pro, but the $20 a bow drawed me away. Now that ive seen all this, its every bit worth it! If wal mart doesnt have it, will unclelees? Thanks

I got mine from Bass Pro...Haven't seen them at the local Wally World here and haven't heard of anyone finding them at any other Wal-Mart...They do carry Winchester Ammo, but whether or not they are stocked with these yet anywhere, I dunno....I don't know about Uncle Lee's either, myself...Although, according to what I just read on another post, you can find them there.
