Looking for any & all suggestions on arrows to shoot from a 46# recurve @ 27 1/2". Material, brand, size, etc.
Leaning toward alumminum for now due to consistency, price, & wide array of spine sizes available. Will consider wood if someone can show me where to get matched arrows at a decent price. Will also consider carbon if I can find something that will meet the spine I need & yield a hunting arrow of reasonable weight.

Greg, Do you know someone locally that may have a wide variety of arrows to try? Depending on your shooting style, how close your shelf is cut from center shot, and a few other factors, you may be able to shoot a bunch of different arrow spines. Remember if shooting off a shelf you must have feathers not vanes. I could help with wood, but haven't messed with aluminum in a long time. If you wanna try wood I can help.

I shoot a compound....but was wondering if any of you guys that shoot recurve or longbow shot carbon arrows. It would seem that a pure carbon arrow would be perfect for hunting, would give you a tad more speed.....and hold up well overtime.

I love carbon arrows and I was wondering the same thing...can you shoot them with a recurve? I would be willing to bet you can. I have only had one break on me, unlike the hundred or so alumium arrows that I have bent. I will never go back.

I have a longbow & recurve cedar works well for me. I shoot 28" draw @ 50 lb. If you use wood make sure you get the right spine. Wood arrows are fairly cheep if you make your own. Where are some of you traditional shooters located. Maybe we can meet up an sling a few arrow some time. Headhunter if I can help or anyone else email wwarrior2003@yahoo.com

Guys the 35-55 Gold Tip Carbon arrows fly great from my 48" stick bow and shoot very well from my recurve too. If you want aluminum you might try something along the lines of a 2018 shaft. I'm not expert but I do shoot a lot.

Thanks for all the replies.
Highbow, 2016 & 2018 look like the most likely aluminum choices from what I've gathered here & speaking to other archers. Can you tell me what your Goldtips weigh as finished arrows?

Depending on how long you leave them you will be around 400to425 and I have no problems with flight.

Thanks Highbow. That's not too far off from what I'm looking for weight-wise.
BH, how did the Taylorsville hunt turn out?

from my experience, gold tip weight doesnt really matter.i shoot em at 29in and a 150 gr head. they will shoot through 2 deer.

Greg, You remember my friend Troy? He got 2 does that I had been still-hunting. My wife and I came home with tags not deer. Better luck next time.

I shoot Easton 2314's from my Bear recurve at 52#. They shoot just as well from my wife's Bear at 45#. These may work but I would only recommend it if you have a fairly deep shelf. They are rather large in the diameter.

Glad to hear that for Troy. Sounds like he's getting around a whole lot better than when I met him!
MrB, I'm familiar with 2314's; shot them for about 8 years from compounds. Seems like they would be too stiff, (hence the need for a deep shelf?) what weight tips do you use with that setup? Not doubting your choice (what works, works!) just curious.
