I got my issue of Turkey Call yesterday. There were 2 stories of hunting turkeys in Kentucky, plus Kentucky was mentioned in another story. I haven't even finished reading the whole magazine yet.
Looks like the state is getting plenty of advertisement. We will get plenty of hunters to help keep our population under control.

Yeah, maybe Kentucky can go back to a one bird limit in the spring and advertise more and encourage more NR hunters to Kentucky.
Wouldn't that be great? We need more help to keep turkey population "under control" on our public hunting properties, like Peabody. YEAH, RIGHT.

No, we need more publicly accessible property. I have been welcomed by friends in many states to hunt there, and I enjoy returning the favor. The birds belong to God, and I'm blessed to share in their stewardship. The only real way to share that blessing is to open more doors to others.

I can't wait until I have my own land. I am fortunate to have a couple uncles who allow me to hunt their land, but don't want me to bring anyone else along, as they've had problems with people coming back from allowing that in the past. So I feel bad when someone invites me along to hunt, and then I can't return the favor later on. But someday, I'll have my own land, and then I'm going to enjoy having people come along for hunts.

Well put !!
Shareing a turkey hunt with someone makes it one of the most enjoyable things in the world.

"No, we need more publicly accessible property."
More hunters, more property required, right?
However, the way its been going in recent years, has been just the opposite.
Double the turkey hunters, less public property.
Lets see. Lapland WMA, CLOSED, 2500 acres or so.
Westvaco WMA, CLOSED, 25,000 to 30,000 acres or so.
Even at Peabody, after years of wildlife habitat work on property, parts are being swapped for different property, requiring starting over on habitat development.
Yeah, we really need a new PR man and national promotions, for "standing room only hunting" on our WMAreas !

"Even at Peabody, after years of wildlife habitat work on property, .......... requiring starting over on habitat development." Damn, I must have missed that part. When or where did it happen? Some of the swap out property came from the NG Unit, plum full of turkeys last time I was there. But we could eventually loose Peabody with only a 30 out clause in the contract. Let's hope not, or try and make sure it doesn't happen.
