I realize that we need more C O 's but are those we do have doing the job.
In my opinion they are doing what they can on law enforcement but are no where close on public relations' that is necessary for hunters;farmers and the KDFW .
We need people like some of the old timers some of which were ( Spelling may not be correct ) Bernice Woody;Clark Baily;Jack monarch; Curtis Lobb;Dane Warner Cecil Gorley; Roy Toon Ken Merideth.
If you have a name to add please do
What is your opinion of your C O ? Is he doing all he can ? And if we had one in every county would that be all we needed? Am I wrong about The public relations?

I don't know about the rest of the state, but here in lyon county. We have a real good CO. Daniel richardson is his name and he does a bang up job on the law enforcement side of the house and he will always talk to you whenever you approach him. The one before him was great also his name was robert fralick.

I've been checked more times by our new CO in the last 2 years than I was by the old one in 20 years. He just pops out of the ground and asks to see your license. I like that. If he's checking me, he's checking a lot of others too.
I also like the way he treated a couple 17 years old that were fishing without a license. He told them to gather their gear up, drive to Wal-Mart, buy their licenses, then come back fishing again and he'd pretend that first meeting never happened. He made some friends that day.
A lot of years ago we had an old timer about 70 years old that had his Senior Citizens Free Pass license. The local CO was checking him bout once a week, and finally the old timer got frustrated, threw his license at the CO, and said to him, "Here, you like to look at it so well, you just keep my license. And the next time we meet, I'll check you!"

It's funny this came up. We had 3, yes 3 in the shop today to get information on a deer shot in another state. Yep, you guessed it, opening day of dove season and CO's from 3 different counties were in the shop for atleast an hour. It just happened to be 3 that, in my opinion, should have been out in force at dove fields. The counties they cover are some of the wealthier counties and have several big dove shoots. It's a LOOOOOOONG story that ended with some pissed off people.
I understand they have a job to do and don't blame them. In this instance, it was 100% their superiors. The superiors are the ones that lied and sent the CO's out to do the dirty work.
Approval rating of CO's is questionable at this point. Approval rating of the department as a whole in in the toilet as of now.

ours is straight up and up if you do the crime you will pay the fine . and i like that alot dont bother me at all.his name is Micket Craig he gets a bad rap from some but there just the guilty ones. been cheched alot and has always been nice.
Fayette Co. has 2, but I've only met one. I had the pleasure of helping him catch a poacher. He was a super nice guy who took his job very seriously and didn't take any crap. That's about all you can ask for.
IMO, CO's do a pretty good job overall. I've been frustrated with some, and very happy with others. The way I look at CO's is how I view the military. Some people believe that if you are a CO, cop, or military person that it automatically makes you a great person. I personally think there are good and bad people in all those professions. The character of the man will dictate the quality of the job they do.

Our CO is pretty good. He hasnt always caught everyone, but he will always show up when you call...
We had 3 co's at our orange card class recently, nice guys and one of them did a talk about what to expect if you get checked before one of the breaks. Seemed like a waste of time for all 3 of them to be there but they said they have to attend so many classes a month. Looks to me like there were plenty of people from the dept there to do the teaching and the game wardens should have been looking for dove bait or keeping drunks on jetskis away from fishermen on a weekend day.

The people pissed, did they get caught? Is that why, what's your long story?
Maybe there were three together, because they were going to go bust a baited dove field and they figured they would stop in to check on a illegal deer or complaint before they got there. Who knows what they did the rest of their shift, JMHO an hour is not much.
Looks like there are some sour grapes on here, as I look over this thread. My CO was at the last Hunter Ed. class, he was working the range, making sure it was safe, and teaching gun safety. I'm glad to see him at that event, helping the youth.

Dont get me wrong,, I was very happy to see the co at the orange card class, but dosent the KFWD have a division just for education?
We all know co's are stretched way too thin, yet they are doing education for the education division while the law enforcement work is not being done.

Most CO's wear about 15 different hats in their job and can be on duty anywhere at any time. My hat is off to every one of them. They have a thankless job until you need one of them, then they are your best buddy.

No, the pissed off individuals were the ones that were lied to by the higher ups at KDFWR. In all honesty we did nothing wrong. We were lied to and it didn't sit well with my boss or anybody else in the shop.
And perhaps they were headed to a dove field but that still leaves the rest of the 3 counties un-covered by KDFWR.

I asked about you the other day , another officer said you were spending more time on LC than Laurel, just letting you know you ARE missed on Laurel!
Not that I blame you, has to be much more to do/excitement on the big water of LC!
