I am starting to Turkey hunt this spring. I have a 6 year old boy who does not want me to leave the house hunting unless he is in tow. I want to foster this spirit but he can sit still enough to have a chance to see birds. I was thinking of getting a pop up blind. Does anyone use one and what do you think the best and easiest to use is.

for turkey hunting, I would recommend the low end model Doghouse blind (regular camo, no TSC, etc.). Easy to setup, economical, and it works just fine for turkeys.

The flagship blind is the DoubleBull blind. It's a bit pricey at around$250-$300. I bought the Ameristep"Brickhouse" blind that use's the same hub system, has better camo and purty near the same room for half the price. Probally won't last as many years as the DB, just depends on how much it's used.

I would get a doghouse. Not to expensive and should last until he gets big enough to sit still.

I have the doghouse. Probably not as good as the double bull, but a WHOLE lot cheaper. Tom

If your going to use it for bowhunting. Whichever blind your planning to get , make sure to set it up and make sure there is enough room to draw your bow.
Most are not big enough, setting on a stool drawing the bow . I've got one, that you poke arrow out window and still hit elbow while at full draw.

For some reason I can not think of the exact name, but it's an Ameristep one, and it works real slick, but like Valley Station said, when you draw your bow, it's a little tight. For gun it would be just fine, and I could still get by with my bow, but if you want more room, I would go with the DogHouse.

Thanks Guys, I think I would probabally only use it with Gun and when I take the little one. He has the bug so bad. He watches more hunting shows on OLN and the outdoor channel then he does cartoons. He has a camo sweatshirt that the wife has to about tear off of him every day before he goes to school. Hope it continues. Will be a good tool for keeping him on the straight and narrow. At least I hope. Thanks for your help guys.

I have used an Underbrush blind for years, they are made right here in south east Ky. I use it to duck hunt and deer hunt also. I have had turkeys walk AROUND me because I was in their path and didn't pay any attention to it. My buddies and I have taken 7 mature toms and 2 jakes from mine since I got it. In my opinion you can't beat em.

just another idea for hunting w/ younguns. a friend of mine takes his little boy with us sometimes, he sits down as usual against a tree and his little boysits in between his legs so he's kind of hidden by dad's outline. the best thing abut doing it this way is you both have the same field of vision, and its easier for kids to see the same things you do. the bad part is if you do get one in range the little ones kinda have to lean outta the way:D

I've got the dog house and really with a 12'' stabilizer there's not alot of room to shoot from side to side, only at an angle (from corner to corner) I wish I had the brickhouse. Double Bulls are awesome but you pay for what you get.
