Hey, Fellow turkey hunters this will be my 2nd year turkey hunting. Last year I used a friends shotgun, but this year I have my own from my brother-in-law but he doesn't turkey hunt. My question is what type choke do I need for this gun ? It is a Mossberg 500, 12ga, 28 inch barrel will shoot 3" or 2 3/4" shell's. Accu - Choke is marked on the barrel. Thanks for any help.

You need to pattern it to tell. I get awesome patterns with a standard "full" choke in my Rem 870 using #5 Heavy Shot. Yes, heavy shot are worth it. I can get 18 pellets in the kill zone at 60 yards. Good Luck.

Go to mossbergs web site they have several accu-mag turkey chokes.

Shoot it first to see where your at. Try a few shells....3" 5's, 6's, Different brands. I'll second the Hevi Shot. I was reluctant to try it, but it did pattern well. Sometimes the Factory Full, or Super Full Trky chokes do well. Thats what I shoot in my 3 1/2" 870. Another to try is an HS Undertaker model. They're inexpensive and seem to pattern well. I have one in my 870 20 Gauge.

Be careful some of mossbergs barrels and chokes are not compatable with hevi shot and it will damage them.

Does it have a choke already in the barrel? There are several that will work and do the job.

I have a mossberg 835 ultrmag with a accu-mag choke. Will it shoot hevi-shot?
Only thing I can find about shell type is on the gun, Which just says size info and lead shot only

I got a Mossberg 500 last year and immediately bought a Star Dot Invector Extra Full for it. Guess what. The choke that came on the Mossberg did a MUCH better job. So much for after market.
I have a mossburg 500 and the best results I have got was with a truglo extreme choke and win. supreme 3 inch #5s.I have tryed lots of chokesand it was the best.I have not tried the heavy shot yet but plan to.

Try a Comp-N-Choke with Winchester Supreme #5 Shot for an awesome pattern.
