I hear people all the time, "puff up" and say "I don't shoot a compound , I shoot "traditional" . They'll be shootin' a $500.00 recurve , carbon arrows with mechanical broadheads.
What is "traditional"?? recurve , longbow, "self" bow??
Arrows have to be wood?? Heads need to be flint?? Stainless steel O.K.?
Got to make your own "self" bow out of osage , wood arrows and napp your own flint heads to be "traditional"??
Is it O.K. to hunt out of a "modern tree stand"??
Just curious, what do you think??[:I]

Wow could you really open up a can of worms here. I'll give my opinion. There's many levels of traditional. Bottom line is a stick and a string. Now beyond that there are those that will only use wood arrows, make their own broadheads or use only 2 blade fixed, not buy todays camoflauge and use only things like the older brown and red clothes, some like the loin cloth yes, won't hunt out of stand and the list goes on and on.
My traditional is just a stick and a string. I use aluminum arrahs and modern Muzzy 3 blade fixed broadheads, sometimes I wear camo sometimes I don't. Sometimes I use a stand and sometimes from the ground. Most people I hang out with are fine by these because of the stick and a string, no sights of any kind, but wouldn't mind if I went even a little more antiqueish for lack of a better word.
I know this didn't really help but if you want a better definition of a die hard traditionalist I can put you in touch with a few. Bottom line to me is they aren't pushy about what I am using and I have been accepted into the traidtional world.

I probably should have added that I think the traditional hunters have a different view of the world in general. They can be much more relaxed at times and long for the old days. I guess I have nothing wrong with that, I own many antiques which decorate our home for much the same reason.... simplicity.
