Well, Finally I broke down and done it. Bought me a box of Hevi Shot.

Todays loads were:

3 1/2" Hevi Shot #5's
3" Win #5's
3 1/2" Win #5's
3 1/2" Win #6's

First, My Shoulder really hurts:(

Secondly, On avg I got around 20-35 pellets in the kill zone at 38 yards with all of the Win brand ammo. Now to the Hevi Shot. Well, the first I shot I missed. Shooter error, Grouped way right on the paper. I guess I was a little too excited about my test:confused:

Then, Well the loads were put to the test. At 38 yards, 52 pellets in one kill zone and 54 in another. The 12" x 12" paperon the targets I was using was pretty shredded also. Ended up shooting 6 of the 10 shells in the Hevi-shot box.

I may be sold...

Would I be better trying the #6's, or even going to a 3"?

Found at another site....

Can I use my current Remington shotgun/choke with new Hevi-Shot Turkey Loads?
Yes. Remington has extensively tested Hevi-Shot through various Rem-Chokes. The top-selling choke, diameter and resulting Hevi-Shot pattern percentages are as follows:
Ventilator (.655") 87% 30" circle, 40 yards
Full - Lead Only (.691") 88% "
Full - Lead or Steel (.691") 88% "
Turkey Extra Full (.687") 92% "
Turkey Super Full (.665") 93% "
NEW Hevi-Shot (.675") 94% "
Tighter chokes than .665" do not improve pattern percentages to any extent and in fact begin to produce more open patterns.
Hevi-Shot can produce cosmetic rub marks in barrels and chokes, simply a change in surface finish. Over an equal number of rounds, this rubbing is similar to that experienced with steel shot. Both materials create more choke strain than lead shot due to a more solid payload. With the Remington wad column, the Hevi-Shot pellets rest on a cushioned pad in the shot container that allows the pellets to flow better through the choke. In addition, the Remington Hevi-Shot shot container is much thicker than previous Hevi-Shot loaded rounds and that thickness minimizes pellet contact with the barrel or choke.
Under laboratory test conditions, Remington has fired in excess of 500 rounds through each Remington choke tube offered, including Ventilator (.655") and "lead only" full (.691") without any dimensional changes being encountered. With the limited number of rounds used in normal turkey hunting, Remington's testing represents many lifetimes of reasonable gun use.

It seems like with chokes, everyone talks about what they pattern at 40 yards. What are they like at 10 yards? I am going to use a choke for the first time this year cause I thought it would be nice if I absolutely had to take that long of a shot on a hung up bird. I really like to try and get them to come in close, but am I just going to blow the head off a bird that close, and have such a tight pattern that I won't have much room for error? Thanks for the help/advice.

10 Yards will be tight even with an Improved Choke. But not as tight with a super full.

I was using my dad's old Stevens, so I couldn't put a choke on it, but now I have a Rem. 870 Express SuperMag, and an Undertaker Plus choke, but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. My dad's would put 10-12 pellets in the head at 25-30 yards, so I wouldn't shoot past that, just to be sure. But last year, I had a few out at 40-50 yards, that I couldn't get to come in any further, and thought if I had it patterned out that far, I'd whack one of em this year if they wanted to play that way.

i remember one wood duck season i forgot my super full turkey choke was in and i was shooting steel 3in #4's and they were sure hard to hit but once to did, you could guarantee that he wasnt gunna be goin no where. It did do a little damage to my choke but i dont use any REMchokes anymore. I have had much more success wingshooting-wise with Redhead, and Briley chokes...MATT

Try 3.5 in. Winchester Supreme 2oz. # 5 shot with a Comp-n- Choke for an awesome pattern.
