I have an old recurve bow that has been sitting in my closet for many years now. I just found it the other day, and I was thinking of maybe trying my hand at shooting it. But the problem is that the lamanation is coming off of the front of the bow in big chips. Will this hurt the bow? Is it still shootable? Can I get it re-lamanated? I thought I would ask some of you guys before I ran off to the sporting-goods store. I have no Idea wht kind it is, there is no name or anything on it. Also, how can you tell what weight it pulls? I have been thinking of makink the switch to a recurve to deer hunt with just to see if I like it. Thanks in advance for any comments or info!

Matt, I would be hesitant to shoot it with the laminaton coming off in the manner in which you described. You can pick up a good cheap recurve or longbow for under $100 form ebay or visit any trad shoot like the KTBA shoot coming up. As far as pull weight, with the numbers being rubbed off or non existant you would have to have an archery shop tell you how many pounds it is. Just be careful and it's always better to have someone who knows them well with you the first time.
Good luck

Just a warning xi traditional bowhunting hunting is addicting once it's in your blood it's hard to go back to a compound. I wouldn't take a chance shooting it. If it breaks you could get hurt!![B)] I had a new recurve break last year and it the top limb splintered,[:0]luckly I only got a bruised & scratched up arm. If you are looking for a longbow check out archery traditions they have a hickory or cherry partially finished for around $75.00. I got a pse kuda for Christmas and really like it. I took my first deer with a recurve the next weekend.[:D]
