I guess you could say I go both ways.[:I] I hunt deer w/ a compound, because for me I have more confidence w/it. I hunt rabbit, squirel, and fish w/ a recurve.

That's a tough question to answer the percentage of compound users that went back to traditional. I know of about 5 guys that were compound and now shoot traditional. However I personally know literally hundreds of traditional shooters and maybe only 50 compound shooters.

I'm in the process of switching over to traditional equipment. Sold the compound Saturday; waiting for my recurve to arrive. Can't wait!

Two fellows in my archery club shoot both, and are fairly good with both.

I switched back 3 season's ago. I learned with a recurve and then shot a compound with out sights, then later with sights. I don't know the percentage.

KYheadhunter, did you get the Browning?

BH & rak, I bought the Browning Spartan. It's a "target" bow, but the shelf is radiused & has sealskin on it, so it can be shot off the shelf. It's also just heavy enough to hunt deer with, 48# @ 28". I'll be pulling it about 27 1/2". Will just have to put some camo tape on the outside of those white limbs before hunting season gets here, no big deal. Figure it's about ideal weight/length (62") to start with.

I plan on buying lots of arrows!!!

Funny you mentioned all the "stuff" on a modern setup, I honestly believe the traditional bows can be MORE effective hunting weapons than modern, tricked-out compounds, IF the shooter is proficient. There's the rub; I have a lot of shooting to put in before I'll be proficient. But shooting is fun, much more than tinkering.

Don't plan on switching to "traditional" any time in the future.

Sticking with my Mathews!

p.s.
your bow (whatever it is) is only as effective as you make it!!

That is correct Glenn!! Practice, practice, practice. One thing I'll say for certain having shot both, when going to a 3-D shoot nothing burned me up more than the compound shooters and their binoculars. I hated waiting for them whether I was shooting a compound or now with traditional tackle. I have more fun looking fer my arrahs than whether I hit the target and get a bunch of traditional shooters together and man the stories around the campfire can really get going!!!

I switched to trad over a 1 1/2 ago. Shoot strictly longbows now. Having lots of fun doing it. Was burned out on the compound.

I've been shooting traditional around 4 years and I'm hooked. Just a stick and string less hassle to fool with no peeps or pins that you can't see. Not a better feeling than take game with a recurve or longbow.
